Dancing With The Stars S23 Power Rankings (Round Two)

Sep 19, 2016 by PowerRankings101
imageNow here’s the nitty-gritty, the first elimination of the year. So who fell lower than expected, and who rose to the top? Did Ryan Lochte bounce back from the controversy? Did we get some awesome TV Routines? Did Len give more 8’s than Julianne? One of those is definitely true, two are up for opinion, but regardless, here’s my opinion!

13. Amber Rose and Maksim Chmerkovskiy- I love “Game of Thrones.” I had such high expectations, but I was so let down. It was a clunky mess, with Maks just putting Amber where she had to go. This could’ve been the best routine of the night, given a good celebrity, but unfortunately, Maks couldn’t save it from the disaster it was.

12. Rick Perry and Emma Slater- He was the worst of the night last week, but still wasn’t the worst dancer the show has seen. This was even better than last week, but that isn’t saying a ton, considering it was still just a silly mess at times. It was too goofy to take seriously, and I think it’s the end of the road for Rick. But it still wasn’t the “Game of Thrones” travesty I saw earlier, so that’s a plus!

11. Jake T. Austin and Jenna Johnson- Let’s just start by saying that the singers in this song just ruined it, pitch problems and awful tone together. As for the dance, it was fun and whatever, but again, Jake misses a lot of steps, and isn’t showing the same potential that Hayes Grier did in his season. Jake may be in trouble, because I don’t know if his fanbase is watching, or if he even has a fan base anymore.

10.  Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke- Ryan got back in the “arena” and danced. That’s all that matters. Was his dancing good? Eh. Was it fun? Yes. Ryan needs to work on the dancing, but he already has quite a story arc to follow.

9. Vanilla Ice and Witney Carson- This was an amazing set done by the crew of DWTS, so props to them. As for Ice, he actually had some grace and elegance in his dancing. It wasn’t amazing, but he is showing some serious potential. It was forgettable by the end of the night, but he shows enough potential to get votes, and it wasn’t the best nor the worst of the night.

8. Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvinstev- The Brady Bunch theme already brings a smile to my face before it even starts. This was immensely better than last time. It’s not perfect, but this was a fun, feel good dance. I loved seeing Florence Henderson make a cameo. It was a great way to start off the show and the smile never ceased.

7. Marilu Henner and Derek Hough- Derek is a pro among pros, but he had trouble choreographing this. But altogether, it came together magically, and was one of the better dances of the night. Marilu has proved a lot so far, now she just needs to show stamina, and that she can do this every week and deliver high scores.

6. Babyface Edmonds and Allison Holker- Talk about surprise of the night. Babyface fricken rocked it, and gave a surprising front runner turn in this competition. While some of the technicalities weren’t spot on, this was a huge improvement from last week, and easily one of the best of the night. I am so impressed, and any doubts I have are now gone.

5. James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess- This zombie routine was so cool, and in my mind overstored. But that’s what happens when you pull out 8s in week 1, the expectations are high. James has a lot to live up to now, but I think he’s on the right track.

4. Terra Jole and Sasha Farber- Terra is such a little bundle of joy, and I really enjoyed this dance. She hit all the steps, and I am incredibly impressed with what Sasha is doing, and how he is choreographing these dances. They could be dark horses and really make it deep in this thing.

3. Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko- Wow. For an injury, Jana really persevered and had one of my favorite dances tonight. She was phenomenal, super sexy as always, and only had some minor minor flaws. For week 2, she’s definitely one to watch.

2. Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold- What?! This guy has such fun and grace in every step he takes and it was one of my favorite routines of the night, by far. He is just such a joy to watch, and a lot of the footwork was surprisingly light and joyful, unlike last week. He’s already growing as a dancer, and if he continues this, he could be our dark horse.

1.  Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy- Laurie is top of the leaderboard again, and rightfully so. Until everyone else sinks into it more, Laurie will continue to be on top. She already has some experience. But so far, she’s won two power rankings, and that is just because she brings so much fun, charm, and energy to the dance floor. Now, let’s see her do a slower dance, and see if she really is all that amazing. I hope and bet she is, and I hope this isn’t the last time we see her on top of the rankings!

Laurie may have this thing in the bag if she can prove herself with a slow dance. Marilu and James were front runners, but Calvin, Jana, Terra, and Babyface were great surprises, also joining them as frontrunners. The rest are all gonna get picked off sooner or later. Vanilla Ice, Amber, and Ryan should have the fan bases (even with the scandals, Ryan will have lots of people voting for him), and that leaves Maureen, Rick, and Jake. Maureen did fine tonight, but going first could hurt her. Jake may have a younger following, but this dance was just a mess. But all in all, I think Rick Perry will be saying goodbye tonight on DWTS.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Home- Rick Perry and Emma Slater
