New's Movie Taste S2 - ROUND 4 (RESULTS)

Feb 18, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Welcome to round 4 results!

I was thinking about it alot and I was like I don't wanna give a Low placement this round...so im not going to!

Anyways, here are all of the critiques:

JayElVeeIsBack - Pulp Fiction (1994) - I mean its hard not to give praise to this movie. So many people say its Tarantino's masterpiece and I totally see why. There is not an moment wasted in this movie. Despite it being long it flows so well, the perfofmances are masterclass. The music is amazing. From the opening scene to shooting Marvin in the face to the sodomy scene to the overdose scene its iconic. Plain and simple, its iconic. Is it my favourite Tarantino film though? No but I can't deny its probably number 2 or 3 and it is a masterpiece.

Thirteen - Phantasm (1979) - Man I respect the hell out of Don Coscarelli for direcing, writing, producing, editing and being the DP of this movie. I admire people who put so much passion and effort into their craft. I totally see why this is a cult classic. It has some great gore, great lore and a stand out performance by Angus Scrimm. Even being a minimally financed movie, its shot pretty well (even better than some modern movies). Where my issues lies is in the fact that I find this movie pretty boring. For such a short runtime, i found it very hard to keep myself invested which is a bummer cause I really wanted to love this movie. I more so respect it rather than enjoy it but I would like to check out the sequels at some point.

Iindsay - The Blair Witch Project (1999) - This is movie where absolutely nothing happens...yet I am terrified. I love the set up and pay off and watching MatPat's theory on this movie honestly heightens the experience for me despite it most likely not being true. Its just dumb people being stuck in a forrest yet the execution is so well done. I also have to give respect towards the marketing of this movie. I wish I was alive and old enough at the time to really experience this movie at the time of release. Watching it years later knowing may not have the biggest impact of what was being acheived earlier but it still has a good entertaining quality to it. Great film!

CarolinaSteele - Little Miss Sunshine (2006) - My friend loves this movie and through years of asking, showed this to me in high school and I remember really enjoying it but how does it hold up now? Tremendously well. I absolutely love this movie. I love the themes of the movie and I love how inspiring it is. You dont need to have a set path or you can be beaten by the world but as long as you do you, things will be good and I aspire to follow that in life right now. Steve Carell gives an incredibly grounded performance that stands out alot to me. Alan Arkin is hilarious and Abigail Breslin made me tear up during her hotel scene with Arkin im not gonna lie. Should have won an oscar. Everyone else is great and really get time to shine. I could gush for a while but to close it off, this movie has great weight, style and emotional moments that really kept me invested. Great job!

Voila - In a Glass Cage (1986) - Wow ok you weren't kidding when you said this was disturbing. Holy shit. I was shook right from the start and I wanna say what I was shook about but I can't because given the subject matter and tengaged's probably now infamous issues, its not wise. Anyways, this is a movie that is definitely not for everyone but despite that, I couldn't help but at least by invested in the movie. Its hard to have an opinion however looking at it through full film analysis, it's a really good psychological horror movie. Angelo is truly disturbed and such a complex character because he is traumatized and was created to be a monster. You don't see much of how affecting it really can be and I think this movie tackles it well for the most part. I am very confused though as to why the last shot was put in a snowglobe but pop off I guess. So overall, a pretty solid movie! I'd never watch it again but interesting to watch no doubt. Congrats on sending the most disturbing film of the entire series so far!

Booyahhayoob - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) - Ok so this might be my favourite Jim Carrey performance? He is brilliant in this movie. Kate Winslet is also brilliant with her blue hair I love. This is such a well executed concept and it really brings out the theme of always being brought back to one another (I know its not the main theme) which I find interesting. The way the story shifts around in Joel's head is also really cool. Its so sad to see him try so hard to keep her in his mind. Also Kirsten Dunst just being like fuck you to the company is iconic and I stan. Anyways, what a great movie!

NanoNerd - Snowpiercer (2013) - I love that this is one of the most expensive productions in North Korean history yet im still counting it as Indie as I can't find anything to disprove it. What a cool concept! I love stuff like this and I love the conflict. It feels very real if something were to happen like this because we are awful as species. We literally suck and this movie proves it. Chris Evans is pretty great in this movie. I like seeing him outside the MCU it shows his range. Tilda Swinton made me laugh and I found alot of the dialogue and flow really engaging! I would say an issue I have is the way some of the action was shot (particularily the beginning of the revolt). It was shaky and zoomed in and it felt like something Zack Snyder would do if Slow-Mo wasn't available. Thats not to say all of it was bad though. The shot with Chris Evans going ham was great as well as the use of Night Vision and the classroom. I also love that there was this crazy dude that always showed up when the plot needed to advance and just kicked ass. Good for him. Anyways, I ended up really enjoying this alot more than I expected to so pop off!

Alright with that said the TOP 3 are:

Fun fact... there’s this huge film theory that Snowpiercer is a sequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
