Sorry for not posting this. I have been going through some very dark shit. But without further ado, let's end the countdown.
2020's Best Competitor is Da'Vonne Roger's from Big Brother 22.
Final Placement: 10th out of 16
Predicted Placement: 5th out of 16
Three years in a row she has been the champion. Three years! Each year that she has been on my television screen, she has provided moments that I found to be more iconic than the next.
When she was announced to be a part of the cast, I was ecstatic. She is one of my all time favorite players ever in reality television. I knew however she had her work cut out for her. Her performances in The Challenge excel over Big Brother. Plus people made her an outcast on Big Brother vs The Challenge. But I figured with bigger personalities there, she might have had a chance.
Time and time again she found herself in the bottom of the alliances. It was hard to watch. She had the potential to be a loyal and determined ally for the end. Even if she didnt win, that would have been very distinctive of her. But she never let that get to her under any circumstances.
She was a big character once more in the show. She had drama with the racist Halloween. She kept things fun on feeds. Aligned with people that I loved. Most notably Bayleigh. She never changed who she was for anyone. Which I truly love. Some veterans do a 180 on their personality and they end up being hated by it all. So it was nice to see Day not flip the script just the please the dodo birds.
Her shining moment came in two forms. Her speaking up for the Black Lives Matter movement, and with it that...all black lives. Cisgender, transgender, the whole nine yards. In the climate that we have been in this year, it was nice to see someone speak up on the issues. Some of the housemates probably were as appreciative of the speaking up, but the fans at home felt that. I hope she knows that she is more loved than she sees.
The second thing came from her first ever win. That veto competition was tricky and frustrating to watch. I would have rage quit for sure. So for her to win it, and remain so focused was pretty kickass. On top of that, she arguably made the ONLY move of the whole season. Saving Kevin caused the alliance to squirm. Only for a few moments since Ian ended up going home, but for a while people were panicked and pissed. I loved every second of it.
In a season plagued with bigots, microaggressions and lowkey bullying..it was very nice to have Da'Vonne come back and bring some light to a season that was more shit than Michie's apologies. She always will have a special place in my heart, and I'm sure other people too. I don't see her returning to television anytime soon, and frankly I cant blame her. It'll be refreshing in 2021 to give the top award to someone that isn't her lol. But a queen will always a queen. So cant blame Da'Vonne for being the gold we need. So to Day I must say thank you for all you do. We will miss you next year.
