Hi, sorry this took so long! I intended to have this one done right away but got very sick a couple hours after posting the round blog and have not quite fully recovered yet. You can kinda see the point where it hit me the hardest, but I powered through and have your results. Let's jump in.
#LaCroix: Bon Jovi - It’s My Life
Bon Jovi’s attempt at a generic pump up radio rock anthem actually went surprisingly well! Is it as good as their big classics? Not particularly. Is it still a fantastic song I enjoy in its own right? Absolutely! Even when kinda phoning it in, they’ve still got the talent and the charisma to carry a track like this, and we’re all the better for having these guys in the music scene.
#Txashaun: Foo Fighters - The Pretender
First off, REST IN PEACE TAYLOR HAWKINS. One of the biggest and most devastating losses in the world of music imo since Chris and Chester left us back to back.
Anyway I suppose I should discuss the song itself. This is not quite one of my favorite songs by them, there was a period of time where I would’ve called it my least favorite of their hits but it’s started growing again. This is just a shot of pure adrenaline and it’s so fun to headbang along to. I’m not quite as attached to this as a lot of their discography but it’s still a good song by a band I love dearly!
#Austino15fffan: Phoenix - 1901
Ok hot damn, this is a song and band I have not thought about in a LONG time! Does it hold up? Yes! As far as I’m aware, the lyrics here don’t mean a goddamn thing but that’s ok, this one is all about the way it sounds and the vibes it carries. I love the way the frontman’s voice sounds though! But yeah, this is all about that rhythm, the music behind this one. It’s just fantastic.
#SeongWoo: Paramore - Brick By Boring Brick
I’m about to be that basic bitch who puts Paramore really high, aren’t I? People who aren’t even into rock love Paramore and for damn good reason, they’re one of the best bands of the modern era. I’m so glad you went with this over the other obvious pick because I am sick of Misery Business while this still holds up all this time later. This is something I’m sure a lot of people can relate to, I totally understand where they’re coming from with these lyrics. And, of course, Hayley Williams has an incredible voice which can carry most tracks. That’s not to take anything away from the rest of the band though, everything comes together really wonderfully to make a song I will absolutely be returning to!
#Samsam: Green Day - Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
Hi first of all, PLEASE include some sort of link with your submissions, thank you! Anyway, goddammit we’re just knocking out all the easy picks here aren’t we? Of course this song’s gonna be high, it’s one of their best songs. Green Day are fantastic and very rarely miss. This song in particular was a staple of teenage Julian’s playlists, because of course it was. The ultimate song about loneliness, it can be a lot to listen to at times but every time I revisit it, I find it still holds up just as well and I love it as much as I always have. I just flat out fucking LOVE this song. It's one of my all time faves.
#Aidan0621: The Killers - Mr Brightside
Another one I expected to see here, and I can’t be mad at it. It took me a while to come around on this song since I never really “got” it. But now that I do get it, I can say that I really like it! Paranoia and anxiety are ABSOLUTELY something I can relate to. Everything spirals out of control as the narrator imagines his partner cheating, and it all twists with that one little word he can’t bring himself to say. That word that rhymes with “sick” but isn’t able to bring himself to say, settling for the much more acceptable “chest.” We never find out if his partner actually cheated or if it’s just in his head, but either way the feelings are conveyed perfectly.
#Booyahhayoob: Evanescence - My Immortal
First off, thank you for posting the proper version and not the retail-core version. This song is simply ruinous. The death of a relationship is one thing, but this isn’t about just a relationship ending with a breakup, moreso about a relationship being forced to end because one of them died. Amy Lee is an incredible vocalist, and the rest of the band excel in knowing when to hold back and when to kick it into gear. The pain and anguish in this song is palpable, and I don’t remember the last time I got through a whole listen without becoming just a total wreck.
#MrRobzilla: Linkin Park - In The End
My mom had a copy of Hybrid Theory and we would listen to it RELIGIOUSLY when I was like 6/7. I knew every word of every song on the album front to back, so when I say this song had a huge impact on my tastes growing up I mean that as sincerely as possible. Now, Hybrid Theory as an album hasn’t aged quite as well as something like Meteora, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still have a lot of love for this song in particular. The chemistry Chester and Mike had is just perfect, I love this band and I love this song.
#Oswordo3: Papa Roach - Scars
Another song I was obsessed with as a teen but has shrunk on me over time. I still think it’s pretty good! Is it better than their other big hit from around this time? Nah. I still enjoy this for what it is though, older Papa Roach were pretty solid in their time, and this in particular is a song I probably should return to more than I do.
#UsernameThatWasFree: Seether ft. Amy Lee- Broken
Now THIS one aged about as poorly as it could have, with their breakup shortly after and both bands writing angry songs about eachother. How does the song itself hold up? I like it. Not quite one of my favorite songs by Seether but it’s pretty good regardless. Of course, anything with Amy Lee on it is gonna get a boost because as far as vocalists go she’s pretty flawless.
#Lucas_RFS: Evanescence - Bring Me To Life
Here it is, the big meme song that everyone knows Evanescence for. They’re so much better than the memes would insinuate but ik people love to shit on them and this song in particular. Amy Lee is, as I’ve said twice already, an extremely gifted vocalist. I did get kinda burnt out on this song a while ago though and don’t actively seek it out anymore like ever. And it sucks because this is good.
#Spinfur: 3 Doors Down - Kryptonite
I hate to say it, but I think I’ve kinda just lost interest in 3 Doors Down. This does slap but I haven’t touched it in so long before this and probably won’t after for a while. I don’t know what else to say here really, sorry!
#Imprincearthur: Nickelback - How You Remind Me
This sure isn’t the absolute worst thing Nickelback has done. That’s probably the nicest thing I can say here. Chad Kroeger is a terrible frontman who sounds like shit at all times for some reason. Like I just really hate his voice. And this song is pretty mid, which puts it towards the top of their discography probably lol. I hate that you didn’t provide a link so I actively had to put this song into my search history.
#Zeptis: The Killers - When You Were Young
As opposed to Mr Brightside, which I’ve only recently come around on, this one has just never worked for me. I’m not sure why, like I can clearly hear that there IS a good song here, it just doesn’t connect for me.
#HeavyRain: Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire
Oh hell yeah, this song is awesome! I have no idea how a band like the goddamn Kings Of Leon managed to make such a certified banger but here we are. I have this album sitting around somewhere, I mainly bought it for this and Use Somebody lolol. The frontman, who’s name I used to know but am blanking on, has a great voice and carries the hell out of this song, especially on the hook which is just glorious.
#Vixens: Avril Lavigne - Losing Grip
…This is your choice for an Avril song? Alright… Well first off, I can’t stand the melody on the verses, it just sounds so unsettling for some reason. I’m more fine with how it sounds on the chorus, except then the lyrics are so basic that it might as well not have. I love Avril, most of her catalog is fantastic, but this was a miss imo! Sorry
#Turkeylover: The All-American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret
Alright! I think this could be what gets you out of the bottom, this song is a banger! I’m not sure I’d say it’s my FAVORITE AAR song, but it’s up there! There’s just something so… forbidden about this song, it’s practically begging you to lose yourself in it. To let it have its way with you. And I’m totally down for that because this song is fantastic and, despite the fact that I’m still very sick, was headbanging along the entire time (I’ll regret that!)
