Well, I guess there isn’t a third place elimination after all. So now we’re down to three still, Caleb, Maddie, and Gabby. As I’ve said numerous times, I don’t think Caleb places in the top 2, and I think it’ll be incredibly tight between Gabby and Maddie. So let’s rank their finale performances!
9. Caleb Lee Hutchinson (1st Song)- If this is the music Caleb is releasing, he’ll be well off in the industry. Unfortunately, it’s just not my cup of tea. And he screwed up the beginning of it.
8. Gabby Barrett (2nd Song)- This must have been an off night for Gabby, because this was pretty bad for her. Even when she’s bad, she’s good, but I really think she shortened her lead with this performance. It didn’t show off much musicality or impressive vocals, and will go down as Gabby’s worst of the season.
7. Caleb Lee Hutchinson (3rd Song)- This was a fun upbeat song for Caleb to do. But it seemed like his energy went backwards when his vocals went forward. It seemed lifeless, despite the incredible beat underneath him. That being said, it was well sung.
6. Gabby Barrett (1st Song)- This wasn’t the most impressive vocal of Gabby’s, but I don’t blame her. This is the coronation song ABC gave her. I don’t love the song, but Gabby still hit all the notes and is likely to make it huge in her career.
5. Caleb Lee Hutchinson (2nd Song)- This was probably Caleb’s best vocal of the season. It’s also the most vulnerable and connected to the lyrics we’ve seen Caleb, which is something he had seemed to lack all season. A pat on the back for him.
4. Maddie Poppe (2nd Song)- Maddie’s original songs are beautiful and make me swoon every time. Was it the best vocal Maddie has given? No. But it was probably the most personal and gives her huge potential for an even more huge career.
3. Gabby Barrett (3rd Song)- Out of Gabby’s three performances, this was her best. The moment with the guitarist and the crowd involvement was awkward as hell, but at least she’s committing to the performance aspect of it and prepping for her big stardom ahead. A bit safe for a finale, but her voice is the biggest one of the season and if she wins, it’ll be deserved by her entire season’s arc.
2. Maddie Poppe (1st Song)- By far the best coronation song of the three. This is a record I would actually buy, and listen to a lot. It reminded me of when we heard Phillip Phillips’ “Home” for the first time and everyone knew it would be a hit. While Maddie’s softer, intimate stuff is her sweet spot, she’s going to need songs like this if she’s going into the business, so I think this was an amazing one for her, yet again.
1. Maddie Poppe (3rd Song)- The final performance of the finale was also probably my favorite of the night. Simple as Maddie always has been, but definitely one that had me on the brink of tears. Her voice is just delectable, and this was the perfect way to end her season, win or not.
I think all three of these contestants will find success in the world of music. Maddie has the most marketable originality, but Gabby's voice has been the biggest one all season and will probably edge her out. Maddie is my personal favorite, Gabby seems to be the fan favorite, but the fact that Caleb keeps making it week after week has me thinking he may have a shot too. I think this season has been neck and neck between Gabby and Cade, and with Cade gone, I think it’s Gabby’s to lose. Maddie certainly made a case, and Gabby took a bit of a step backward, but if we’re judging by the entire season, Gabby is the favorite.
