New's Movie Taste S2 - ROUND 6 (RESULTS)

Feb 25, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Welcome to the Round 6 results! Where 6 will become 5!

Okie so if you have kept up with the blog, we all know how this is gonna play out but regardless, here are the critiques:

Voila - Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) (Sci-Fi) - UGH FUCK YES! This used to be my favourite movie of all time for like the longest time. I loved this movie so much growing up. It has so much going for it. Where to start. Ok so the effects. They are slowly starting to age but I will never criticize it as it was phenomenal for its time and the fact it took pretty much 30 years to show its age a bit says alot and I mean only slightly. It still looks fucking great. The direction and the action are on point. James Cameron directs the hell out of this movie and makes sure everyone gets their performance on point. That brings me to the casting. Amazing. While Edward Furlong could have been arguably a bit better and not set as a 10 year old when he clearly is not, hes still really good and carries some of the emotional weight of the movie but my god Linda Hamilton steals every scene she is in. Badass to the fucking bone. The score is amazing. The sliding on the horns whenever the T-1000 is around is forever scarred in my mind. Omg I forgot about Robert Patrick. Terrifying. I love his less is more prescence compared to Arnold. Anyways, one of the best films ever made no question about it.

Booyahhayoob - The Bourne Identity (2002) - Jesus Christ it's Jason Bourne! I really like this movie. Its very smart and uses subtle details with the camera that really help progress the movie. I like that alot of the opening is silent and just Matt Damon trying to figure shit out like the rest of us. It brings us along without the boring expositional dump. Matt Damon is great in this movie. I love how everyone didn't believe he would be able to be an action star but like c'mon. I also like the small scale action style. Not everything has to be so bombastic and the story doesn't require it. This is a movie I would probably come back to often if im in the mood for an action movie. Its really solid and I totally see why it started that huge boom for the style of action movies.

JayElVeeIsBack - Never Back Down (2008) (Martial Arts) - Hmm. I wasn't expecting this! This is very much every cliché possible. I would probably compare this the most to The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift where alot of it is almost beat for beat. However, this movie is not that good. I can see it having the so bad its good vibe but I definitely prefer Tokyo Drift as its just a more charming movie with its characters and a surprisingly solid score. This is just kind of trashy and that gross 2000's style really does not help. Evan Peters is great though. He is so charming I love him. Thats pretty much it though. There are alot of better Martial Arts films out there that have similar plot lines.

CarolinaSteele - Salt (2010) (Espionage) - I love Angelina Jolie so much. She has a weird presence that I love. She is also a great action star and she is great in this movie! Very much carries this movie and we stan. So there are definitely stuff I enjoy! The action is pretty good! There are some problems particularily with Liev Schreiber being unconvincing and the story being too convoluted for like no reason. Honestly I would have been fine with it if it played on the satirical side of things cause its crazy enough to do that. Never the less, the movie is just alot of fun and as I said, I love Angelina Jolie so good movie! Also James Newton Howard's score is great! I always like to highlight the composers cause they really help the movie!

NanoNerd - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) (Action/Adventure) - 1 of 2 movies that helped make the PG-13 rating in America! What an interesting choice to go with the 2nd one. I really enjoyed this movie. It's just very entertaining and very dark which I absolutely love. Harrison Ford is really good I don't really have to say anything about it. The score is great as always, the cinematography I really liked! I love the use of red and the darker pallet compared to Raiders. I also like how the story isn't intercut with the original. Sometimes you don't need to have a continuing storyline and just have this dude go on insane adventures. If I have any complaint its probably Kate Capshaw. She whines and screams alot and its kind of obnoxious. Given how Spielberg and Lucas were doing with personal relationships at the time I totally understand it but its just a little too much for me. Other than that this is a really solid movie that holds up with the original and might even be better!
