New's Movie Taste S2 - ROUND 5 (RESULTS)

Feb 22, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Hello! This one was a fast one yeah?

So like last round I will just plop all the critiques together. There will be a low placement however...

With that, here are the critiques!

Voila - The Fox and the Hound (1981) - Man so I had a huge Disney binge a while ago because I guess as a child I lived under a rock and barely seen any. This was the first one that actually made me tear up. That scene was just heartbreaking and that alone makes this a great movie. The movie itself though is really good! Tod is a great character who just wants to be everyones friend. I relate. Copper is an interesting character as well (I love that he is played by Kurt Russell). I like the concept of nurture and how it really affects your upbringing and the two characters bring the opposites of that pretty well. If I have any gripe with it is that I think Chief should have died like he was supposed to. To me, it doesn't make the conflict that interesting or pack a punch. I get it, it's Disney but Disney has done dark shit so its not out of the normal. Oh well, great movie!

Booyahhayoob - The Incredibles (2004) - This. God this movie is perfect. The writing, the animation, the villain and the motive, the characters, the voice actors, the pacing, the direction, the amazing score, Edna fucking Mode. I love that this was a catalyst into what the Superhero genre would become. It's impact. From the opening interviews straight to the final scene I am hooked, vibing alone and just in love. Even the smaller details like Dash's laugh as he runs on water are investing and fun to spot out. Its such a great movie and one of the best films I feel ever made. I always love seeing people analyze the movie and theorize because it just shows the effort that went into the movie. Brad Bird killed it.

NanoNerd - Finding Nemo (2003) - Aw I loved your story! I feel that way with Cars and The Incredibles although looking back on it, I find one more superior! As a kid this one never stuck out to me or I just never had the accessibility to it. Like literally it wasn't available to me. Anyways, I really enjoy this movie. Merlin actually trying to be a good dad is something I can't relate with. I always related with the turtle. I love just being chill its nice. Good for them! Anyways, while I do enjoy the movie, I do find it a little slow in places. Particularily with the dentist tank scenes. It takes me out of the story but I understand why its there. Aside from that its a pretty good movie so pop off!

tanarexix - The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) - Oooo I love this movie. Arguably the darkest disney movie and I was on board from the start. I love the visuals, the grand scale of everything and just how dark it is and where its willing to go. I was hella shook. Quasimodo is such a sympathetic character and he just wants to live life. I feel so bad for him and his journey especially because people just constantly use him and make fun of him. Its really heartbreaking. I also really like Esmerelda. She finds a friend in him which I like that they stay friends. Its something Disney doesn't do alot but it makes sense for this story. Anyways, I love how this moment plays on religion and sin and I know it comes from the source material but its just cool for a Disney movie. A truly empowering and underrated movie.

CarolinaSteele - Dinosaur (2000) - So I haven't heard of the most positive things about this movie but I went in with a clear mindset and just looking to enjoy the movie. For my positives I love Hayden Panettiere and she is great in the movie! The score is also astoundingly beautiful. James Newton Howard did not need to go as hard as he did but good for him! I love his work. With that, I love the real world backdrops. They look cool! My biggest issue with it comes from the animation. It has not aged well. It doesn't mix well with the backdrops unfortunately. Although some of the very wide shots (particularily with the opening) are pretty good as its from a distance. I wish I had a nostalgia filter for the movie as I probably would have enjoyed it more but for ita time and for what it was, it does have enjoyable qualities.

JayElVeeIsBack - The Iron Giant (1999) - I have been wanting to watch this movie for years! I bought the dvd like 7 years ago and never got around to it but I have constantly heard great things. It did not disappoint! It actually made me cry im not gonna lie. I loved this movie. I was reading about the movie and what not and saw that Brad Bird made it as a way to cope with her sister's death and then the writer of the original book wrote as a way for his children to cope with their mom's death and knowing that gave this movie so much weight as it really is a movie about moving forward in life after dealing with death. The voice performances were really strong and I felt so much for the relationship between Hogarth and the giant. Vin Diesel is really good at aninated characters damn. Hated that dumbass Mansley character. Greedy ass bitch I wanted him to suffer. The animation is also gorgeous! I loved the fact the aspect ratio was 2:40. It made it feel more cinematic and looked so beautiful. This is a movie I absolutely enjoyed and I am so happy I finally watched it. Awesome job!

Iindsay - The Smurfs 2 (2013) - Wow. Ok uhm I honestly don't even know what to say. Acai. I wonder what compelled Brendan Gleeson to be in this movie.
