Arris Music Taste Game / Week 6 INDIE / double elimination

Dec 10, 2020 by Arris
Hello contestants!

This was another very strong round, and I'm pleased with all the entries, so yet again the choice was not simple.

                                  =============Results============

DarkTyphoon23 has submitted Praying by Kesha
This is HUGE. I remember when it came out and all that Dr. Luke stuff like yesterday. I think lyrics are so powerful here and she is so honest about what she has been going through, and those vocals... I think she did shut everyone who said she couldn't sing up. The high note is just marvelous. Beautiful song. I still get chills when I hear this.

Hong has submitted Fighter by Christina Aguilera
Yes, this embodies what this round is all about. She knows she's a fighter and she's going to be all right, she knows that she's enough and does not need anybody else to feel good about herself. I think that the lyrics are really powerful here and of course her vocal delivery just makes this hard to resist.

Decisions has submitted So What by P!nk
Gosh, I love this track. P!nk gives zero fucks, and she does it so effortlessly. What a female boss, honestly. This track in particular is one of her best - it's catchy af, has a great pop/rock vibe, and the lyrics are hilarious. Oh, and yes she's still a rockstar ;)

Irelia has submitted Proud by Heather Small
Omg, I have never heard this song before. It's quite beautiful and I'm sorry to hear it was the reason you got chopped in the other game Christian_, but I dig this so Miss Big Rel won't be meeting your faith here. It's a bold submission and it definitely paid off. Also, she sounds so much like Cher tbh.

Washed_Ravioli has submitted The Anthem by Good Charlotte
This is another example of the punk-rock that I absolutely adore. Similar to what GiGi10 has submitted last round, this brings me back to such young years. It also makes me think of the movie 'The Pacifier'. An absolute banger and throwback to the memory of my 10-year-old self screaming and bopping to this.

Rubes has submitted Fight Song by Rachel Platten
You're right it did save a lot of lives. I think this has very simple, even a little basic, and yet it has such a powerful message, and I think that's the beauty of it. Also, this is one of the most uplifting songs I've ever heard in my life. A true fight song :)

NewNightmare7 has submitted Confident by Demi Lovato
I really like the message and the image Demi has been sending on that album and this track in particular. She's rocking her feminity, sexuality, power, and freedom of choice in this track, and she does it so effortlessly. Besides, it's catchy and is what this round should be about. What's wrong with being confident?

tswiftlover13 has submitted Power by Little Mix f/ Stormzy
They have such wonderful chemistry together, and it really shines on this track. The beat is sick and I dig that almost passive-aggressive way they sing this in. Also, Stormzy has been a great addition to this and I even prefer this version, over the solo one. Not to mention that the beat is really sick and so is the overall energy of it.

J2999 has submitted Changes by LAUV
I've always liked his style because it's kind of unique. The lyrics are so good here and honestly, I think this is one of those songs that literally anyone could relate to because it's pretty ambiguous like you can apply so many different things to what he sings about.

GiGi10 has submitted God is a woman by Ariana Grande
I like the way she switched her image around that time and started to embrace her feminity. The message of this song is very clear and honestly, she spilled the tea. A woman can be all those things that men, including being a God. I think the production here is slick and I really enjoy the instrumentals. Her voice also sounds very on point and well-controlled.

Insanity has submitted Like a Girl by Lizzo
Lizzo has a good flow, and this track is pretty all right. Go #GirlPower! I did not necessarily love this track, but it fits the theme wonderfully and overall it's enjoyable. I really admire the way she takes control over and reclaims the phrase "like a girl", which very often is used for whatever reason as an insult.

RedFabFoxy has submitted Roar by Katy Perry
I mean yes it's super catchy and empowering, so it's a huge plus, but I always felt she had better songs even on that album. Anywho, it's super catchy and has an infectious hook. Very inoffensive, uplifting, and yet powerful.

3pi14159 has submitted Sugar We're Going Down by Fall Out Boy
This is pretty good too, I found it sufficient enough. I found the overall composition pretty good, and the guitar has really worked its magic. I can't say I'm a big fan of Fall Out Boy, but this one is certainly their best track.

useamint has submitted Boy Problems by Carly Rae Jepsen
Oh, this is way more empowering than I remembered. Anyhow, I think the lyrics are a bit shallow and could have used more nuance... There really are worse problems than boy problems. The production is obviously the savior here because it's just perfect.

Christian_ has submitted Hit 'Em Up Style by Blue Cantrall
I'm overall kind of indifferent to this track and was always founding her other track 'Breathe' way better and catchier, but this one still does its job. It has a fun beat and the lyrics are obviously good for the round we're in.

The choice came down to the two songs I found most underwhelming - Boy Problems and Hit 'Em Up Style. Unfortunately, this means that we have to say goodbye to my dear friend Christian_. Thank you for participating, you were a good and competitive player. This just wasn't your round, but don't beat yourself over it, because all the picks were good. Take care <3

____________________________

You guys have been submitting pretty commercial, popular songs for the majority of the time, which is okay, but kinda made me feel in a mood to listen to some INDIE stuff, and that is all this round is about. And I truly mean indie, underground music, not Folklore by Taylor Swift type of indie. Make me feel oh and wow! You have 24 hours to submit your tracks. Also, I have decided to do a double elimination round this time because I think it's time we reduce some numbers.

After this round, there will be only 12 of you remaining, and there might or might not be another double elimination - that's something yet to be determined.

Have a look at the updated spreadsheet.

Arris PTOD isn鈥檛 the only act I would disqualify from this round if I鈥檓 being honest
Sent by Insanity,Dec 10, 2020
I can let slide the other 3 acts, but panic is literally getting a regular mainstream radio play, and gets a lot of playlisting on Spotify, especially with that album. insanity
Sent by Arris,Dec 10, 2020
Dog Days Are Over hit #1 on Billboard like LMAO @ that song being sent for an indie round
Sent by Insanity,Dec 10, 2020

arris idk does this work? I am just submitting songs that say alternative/indie when i google them

Sent by 3pi14159,Dec 10, 2020
I feel like this needs to be made more clear. You never stated what you meant by indie and when I did my research this track鈥檚 main genre was Indie so please explain more in the explanation what you want from the round lol.
Sent by Rubes,Dec 10, 2020
Essentially, I don鈥檛 want something that is on the radio. I want songs that are not well-known, preferably by unknown artists. Rubes

No, that song was massive. You still need to change 3pi14159
Sent by Arris,Dec 11, 2020
ok this one is less well known

Sent by 3pi14159,Dec 11, 2020
