FromAWindow - I mean, the lady has 18 or 19 number ones for a reason. I think there was a stronger choice you could’ve done for 90s Mariah, and even though its a stormy song with a lot of dynamics, its less immediate than a lot of the field this week.
moup94 - This was a choice I didn’t have in mind, but it makes so much sense! Punchy, direct, and full of attitude. And I enjoyed you taking on the 70s after seeing people weren’t biting on it as much (70s music is probably my least favorite of the 3 decades so not saying it wasn’t smart!) and then pulling this.
CoolblueP123 - Speaking of attitude. I really forgot how layered the harmonies were in this song, and hearing the “oohs” float in and out my ears was a cool thing to recall. Job well done picking your category and delivering.
camell22 - it’s a legendary song, but in this lineup I felt like I responded to this maybe the least of any of them? When I play it against the other songs on the list, this one feels the most like a chore to get through (and its not like its a major chore, just more of one than the others). Part of that may be overexposure to it to be fair though.
Currents - I loveeed the eccentricity. Bring fun back to music I beg. The bassline is slinky and drives the song forward. And as the song progressed, I found myself grooving more and more. This one is definitely a sleeper, I could see me liking it more and more as time passes.
Insanity - LOVE the chorus on this song, but otherwise it feels a little less timeless than most of everything else submitted. This is sadly just not a song I’d come back to like I would and have for a lot of the other songs listed. But that chorus is so good.

Alisowned - So I’ll own up to my part in that you were about to log off and didnt have time to wait to see what the theme was really. But this really doesn’t fit what I was looking for sadly, even though it is a pretty great song.
Times_Places - If I’m honest, you being in this lineup isn’t really indicative of how you did this week. But while I have you up for critiques, let me just say that your song choices have been much more interesting than they were the last time you played, and that's a good sign in this competition. I think you had some bad luck in who you got matched up with, but this was another strong week for you.
HeavyRain - I think this checks the boxes off, but this song doesn’t really give me AMV like the other submissions. Like you’re in the ballpark but some people were hitting home runs (ew a sports analogy? Who am I??) I think Yves having more laid back vocals in this song also made it not as punchy as I wanted it.
JonMcGillis - Yours was probably the most interesting matchup, since you and FromAWindow both went for more of rock blended with another sound. But listening to them back to back, I felt more rock in the Poppy submission, so you had to land here. That being said, this is a bit of a stretch for AMV music, though it’s a great song and I do think I see your vision.
mathboy9 - Another one who just had the bad luck of going up against the challenge winner. I think your song was interesting, kind of experimental but it worked for the category. The riff is candy. While it’s not as flashy as some of the other songs it definitely gives me the drama in the song structure.
Insanity - So the music fits theme, but i did think the Bloc Party song was a stronger submission overall. I appreciate how you took the theme more into anime opening/ending than AMV, it feels like you’re the only one who did. It’s a little… too produced for what I wanted but the guitars/drums do help forgive that a lot.

Alisowned, you are safe. While this was kind of a miss, your submissions have been very interesting and I think you can bounce back from this. Plus I did actually really like this song too, despite it not being the right category.
HeavyRain, THANK YOU SO MUCH for getting that last spot and helping me with the season. You’ve also been making some very interesting choices (it’s kind of crazy to me that I’m cutting someone for an Yves Tumor song) so it’s bittersweet to see you eliminated here.

The challenge today is to select a song that qualifies as rock music. I want guitars, I want dynamic vocals, I want to head bang (I don’t have the hair for it)! It can be anything from heavy metal to psychedelic but be careful to not go too out there. Ultimately, think more anime AMV than surfer dude with a ukulele.
ROUND 3 THEME- AMPED UP
But before we get to posting, let’s discuss the advantage that was won last round. Earlier today, MISSImogen was tasked to pair each of you up in duos, for a face off round. You will be battling in 1v1 battles based on this list. The contestant that places higher than their opponent overall will win safety this week. Even if you and your opponent were in 13th and 14th place, that 13th place would have secured safety. That means that the loser of each heat will be in danger of being eliminated. I will be cutting one person from that group of 6. And since there’s an odd number of people remaining, this is a bye week for the remaining player who was not paired up. I encourage you to still submit a song, but since you have no opponent you can’t be up for elimination. So no pressure.

camell22 - While I do like the song and it definitely fits that earworm category, it was a little less punchy than I was hoping for. The vibe of it of course is great but I think I wanted a higher BPM for this round.
moup94 - This hits the theme dead on! Fucking love this song, just good mindless pop music. This song was soooo robbed of the attention Dance The Night Away got. Normally I’m not big on obvious samples but its too good to even care. Really good job this week.
MISSImogen - Oh you came in the competition mad as hell. This was another great pull for you tonight, and the subtle effects in the background fit in with the vibe completely. And once again, you picked something that really showed it’s teeth in that chorus that had me paying attention.
Alisowned - Now to be honest, this might be pushing that pop category a bit. Even if it’s got hyperpop elements in it, it’s kind of also pretty house-y in the repeating parts between verse/ chorus. But that being said, what’s pushing you up here is how much I LOVED the song. Like immediately in my saved songs. The voices coming in at the beginning do something so good in my brain, and the chorus is like… uplifting.
BoyToy4Cato - I think the song was good, but sometimes I think Charli gets in her own way with production choices she makes. Like the effects in this song were overpowering the song in parts. And I don’t know if that clashing really works with the “bright” ask. And also everyone else kind of came in the gate swinging for the most part and this takes a second to get to it’s groove.
turkeylover - NAURRR i think we’re doing the thing we did last time where I’m squirrely with what I’m into and it took a couple of rounds for you to get on my wavelength with that. That being said, afrobeats is POPular music right now, so I think this was a creative way to stand out and while it’s a little light, it’s a very pretty song. And I do think the prechorus-hook is infectious.
