Hello ACTUAL top 6! As I said, there will be no more buyback competitions or surprises (as long as you know how the end of the last season went). One of you is going to be the winner of this competition.
ROUND 11- SAMPLE SIZED
In recent years, music publishing has caused many artists to splurge for expensive sounds from times past (to avoid being sued for copyright infringement for accidentally using a melody). The point of this is to touch a feeling of nostalgia within the listener, or help them digest the song more easily because it’s familiar to them. However a lot of times, listeners find the use of these samples to not be used correctly and it causes a negative reaction instead.
For this round, you are challenged to submit a song built around a sample from another piece of music/media. The sample does not have to be a bar for bar remake, but I am going to request that you point out what the sample is if it’s not an obvious one. The goal is to find a song that improves upon the sample, or uses it in a really good way.
Okay this is a little bit of a “hill that I will die on” submission
Original song: Too Much of Heaven by Eiffel 65 (Simple, very late 90s, not really anything special or really that great in my opinion because of excessive autotune)
Song that sampled #1: мин нет by мин нет(No Mines in Russian. It’s described as pop hop. It’s very early feminist/rebel youth of Russia with its lyrics. Basically saying that they’re not going to live their life in fear simply because adults say it’s a scary world and instead, they’re going to take fear by neck and show it who is boss) You’ll hear how they sampled immediately 😂
Song that sampled #2: Cool by Dua Lipa (Not my submission song BUT I SWEAR the beat in the back is like an inverse version of the original Eiffel song so I just felt like sharing that to see if you agree…some people agree with me and others think I’m crazy)
