But I do feel the need to say that someone being a criminal or previously violent does not warrant police brutality or execution before trial. If police can take mass shooters alive (and get them fast food after in some cases), then they can de-escalate a situation without brutally murdering someone.

BLM isn’t supposed to be about cherry picking the “perfect” victim to rally around.

KMC2 FINALE Apr 14, 2024
imageOKAY i’ve had yall wait long enough. We will be doing solo judging this round as Slice is NOT IN HOUSE. For the first round, you were tasked with selecting songs with under 5,000 views on YouTube to submit. You’ve waited long enough so we’ll just be doing short critiques before someone gets cut.

MISSimogen- I like the house backbeat to this song. She’s a little laid back in the song, but it does fit the vibe of the music. And the chorus really opens the song up.

FromAWindow- It was a little bare for me, but the way the chorus crashes in was great. And the 2nd voice was smartly placed because I think they had a power the first one didn’t convey as much.

Currents- The chorus definitely felt euphoric. The speaking part was an interesting break, wasn’t sure if I liked it. But I did enjoy how it floated the vocal melody back in under that. The saxophone jumping in was funny, but it actually boosted the song in my eyes.

JonMcGillis- Such a good jazzy song. Kind of wish she did something else before the ad libs so it would give the song a little more to work with, but she got in and out and I wasn’t mad at it.

FROMAWINDOW. You’ve had a bit of a hectic last few weeks, but I’ve been very impressed with your picks! Unfortunately this was my least favorite of the round (which sucks cause you definitely would’ve made f2 with the Yola pick lmao). Good job on placing higher from the first season and thank you for applying.

Moving on, for the next round you were tasked with pulling songs that felt like a grand finale, a curtain call.

MISSimogen- This felt very much like a song that could get played at the end of a movie during the credits. Loved the vocal stacks and the way the song sounded HUGE by the end.

Currents- Ngl I kind of avoid Caroline’s music as a rule lmaooo. That being said, this was actually much more pleasant than I thought it would be. She made really cool choices with her cadence and the notes she chose and I feel like I got where you were going.

JonMcGillis- I love the psychedelic rock direction you went with. It gives me that feeling of a movie credit roll too, love the drama of it. The runtime hurt you a little though, especially in the cooldown part in the middle of the song. However when it came back in it was right back to being a net positive.

MISSIMOGEN. All three were strong picks, this one felt the least mighty to me. You absolutely dominated this season, and I think you might have my personal music taste down the best of the 4 but sadly I think my interpretation of the themes were different than yours a few times. Currents- Yeah you ate this pick lmao. The HONEY part in particular was an immediate fave when I listened to this album. Now I might be a little biased because of my association with the skittle squad, but idc this song still goes.

JonMcGillis- That “my love’s gone” harmony is stunning, but I think the song really locks in when it transitions into the 2nd part. This was a bold choice since you have to wait a few minutes to get the payoff of the Tyler verse, but it's worth the wait.

CURRENTS!!!! You started and ended super strong, and outside of one week where you were in the bottom 2 you managed to keep control and stay afloat in this chaotic ass season. Congratulations! You have won and will be awarded a gift of your choosing (I’ll PM you).

JONMCGILLIS, you did amazing as well! I love the risks you took throughout the competition, i think they helped you make a really great impact. You may have only gotten one win but I think you actually were one of my top picks to be here at the end because I know your taste eats. WHEW so with that we’re done. I’d like to thank EVERYONE who participated, I’ve added a lot of new songs to my likes from this season and it’s always cool to be shown what everyone is listening to. I know I said this last time but this will probably actually be the last season (the site is getting closed any day now right?) But I feel very accomplished because I’ve had two great casts who's opened my eyes (and ears) up to all sorts of cool sounds.
