Yall have waited long enough so I’m gonna post the critiques of each song and then cut. Simple.
Round 1: DRUM N BASS THEME
MsKathryne - LMAO you and these no vocal songs. But again it’s fun and I found myself jamming along to it. It does get a touch repetitive, but then once it’s snaps out of one rhythm and goes into a new one it’s fresh again.
PennyTrationStan - Very cool sounding song, they have a very Amber Mark esque tone. I think it almost feels outside of the theme for this round? It’s a little more laidback than I was expecting, but as a SONG I enjoy it, no shocker. The song was ending and I was like aw :/ so I think good job in picking something that will at least push you through.
turkeylover - No shock since this is your choice, but great pick this round. Great opener for this album, immediately interests you in the journey you’re about to take. The hiss at the start letting you know to settle in…. Yeah. And she’s literally cooing over this beat.
txashaun - Let me say, I get the theme but it definitely wouldn’t have been something easy for me to find either. I think you found a good choice, even if it’s maybe pushing the drum n bass a little (it’s a bit slow). Noah fence but Willow is outperforming this girl all over her song lmao, it makes it seem a little lopsided. Willow has such pipes and then the other artist is like a whisper vocalist, which works great for this genre but it sounds so weak when she follows Willow. I do enjoy the song more than I expected to.
Alright, with that said…. I have chosen to eliminate txashaun. I think the other three hit the theme a little better, so sadly that means this is the end of the road for you. But you did really well! You’re the only finalist to never have a bottom placement, and thats an insane feat considering how all over the place I am musically sometimes. Thank you for applying and playing.
Round 2: BLACK EMPOWERMENT THEME
MsKathryne - I personally like singer Beyonce more than the talk singer one we have to get now thanks to the state of the music industry. So when she started playing in the harmonies I appreciated that. And when she was letting loose on the bridge I was INTO IT.
PennyTrationStan - Oh I got hype, love the song. It’s funny how you said this was on the nose, I wasn’t catching how it fit until we got to the melanin lines. Ummmm I was jamming the fawk out to this the whole time, great sample choice great flow.
turkeylover - First off, love that your mind went here for black empowerment, cause this isn’t really a sound you would expect from this category. However…. I don’t think I like this lmao. The hook is not nearly punchy enough for me. It kind of sounds like a Kidz Bop cover ioasjfj. I think it’s just because it’s like a protest song too, and that makes me want the delivery to be a little less… happy sounding?
Well…. I’m gonna have to eliminaysha turkeylover :[ I mean yeah it’s kind of already stated why but dont eliminate me back in your game thank x No you’ve been such a fun player in this lmao like chart goals absolutely. And then to end up having the most wins of anyone this game like you did that. Thank you for applying and playing.
Round 3: LIVE MUSIC THEME AND THE ****FINALE****
MsKathryne - There’s something special about this whole Tiny Desk. This isn’t my favorite from it, but she weaves the story beautifully from intro to the swelling finale. I think one thing you might have as an edge is that this song was arranged like a finale song so it feels really fitting for this theme, to me.
PennyTrationStan - If Ms. Lauryn is gonna do one thing she’s gonna change the song LMAO But at least this is one of the better variations of the song. The one thing that I will say is Lauryn is always trying to catch up to the beat live, so she sounds like she’s out of breath like the whole time. But like of course a legend singing a legendary song, very smart choice to close out the season with. LOVE the little outro (even though I screamed at her being like “thank you for your patience.” Like BE SERIOUS)

MsKathryne! You’ve kind of come out of nowhere in this game. I was worried that you were playing it too safe, and then you turned in that Mitski song and I was like “good okay we’re speaking the same language now.” And with only one bad week in the game you are a VERY worthy winner in my book.
