The tributes are put in respective tubes which take them into the arena. They find themselves inside of a rocky cornucopia surrounded by water. There are several boats on the edges of the cornucopia, and in the distance a few buildings can be seen.
The tributes anxiously await for the timer to hit 0.
10...
Rusty is looking at the land mines below him, thinking about how he can use them to his advantage once the games begin.

Aiden and Ess look at each other trustingly.
8...
Kaay can be seen eyeing Logan, who looks focused on one single boat.
7...
Bliss is looking angrily at everyone else.
6...
Malibu looks like she is deciding which of the boats she wants to go for. She also has her eye on a set of spears.
5...
Xanthos looks like he’s changing into someone else...
4...
LJ looks worried by the arena, wishing he knew more about how to work a boat.
3...
Rach is looking at all the weapons muttering to herself. The other tributes can make out the words “critical damage” and “health points”.
2...
With little time left, Mac whispers to Lindsay, the person next to her “I bet I can beat you to that big sword!”
1...
Mac becomes impatient and only thinks about beating Lindsay to the sword. As a result, he races off of his pedestal too early, causing him to get blown up.
BOOM!
Right as Mac steps off of his pedestal, Lindsay impulsively tries to race after him to prevent him from getting blown up, not thinking through the situation. As a result, she also gets blown up.
BOOM!

With very little time to react to the 2 early deaths that they had just witnessed, all the tributes begin running toward the various supplies scattered all around the cornucopia.
All except Rusty, who begins carefully taking apart the now deactivated land mines next to his pedestal.
Within seconds, he manages to take them apart and create what appears to be a button activated bomb. He carefully places the bomb in the middle of the arena, and then attempts to hide. He waits until he sees Tryffiny standing right on top of it. He is about to press the button to set it off when...
BOOM!
Shimmer comes seemingly out of nowhere and throws a knife right into Rusty’s eye, penetrating his skull. She also notices the button he’s holding and attempts to reach down and grab it. However, Rach suddenly runs to pick it up. Shimmer starts chasing her down as Rach attempts to run away.
Meanwhile, Malibu notices the bomb in the middle of the arena, and feeling fearless, decides to pick it up. It’s small enough for her to carry with one hand, and she’s wondering what she can do with it.
Suddenly, she notices Rach running away with a button. Rach seems to be running slightly faster than Shimmer when...
BOOM!
Rach runs straight into a trident being held by Tryffiny. The trident immediately slices right through her chest and damages her spinal cord, killing her almost instantly.
Tryffiny: Thanks for saving me back there.
Shimmer: Don’t mention it. Now get the button!
Tryffiny reaches to pick the button up from Rach’s corpse when suddenly Malibu pushes her down and takes it for herself. Shimmer attempts to throw a knife at her, but she misses.
Shimmer then notices LJ in the distance.
Shimmer: HEY! GET HER!
LJ suddenly tries to become alert, but at that moment Malibu runs right past him, in the process slipping the bomb down his shirt.
LJ feels the bomb slide down his back and suddenly panics to get it out. However, it then falls into his pants, and he suddenly feels it slide downward even more.
Shimmer: SHE HAS THE BUTTON!
LJ then looks at Malibu, who he sees run right off of the cornucopia and dive straight into the water. He picks up a spear and looks in the water for Malibu, but all he can see is a faint shadow.
Not wanting to die, he throws his spear hoping to kill her. However, he knows nothing about catching things in the water with spears and fails miserably.
Malibu, holding her breath underwater, then excitedly presses the button.
BOOM!
Malibu watches as blood and bits of LJ fly into the water. She then resurfaces and sneaks her way onto a boat without anyone noticing. Shimmer and Tryffiny ignore LJ’s loss and look for other careers.
Dizzle and Frangilla, who both have met up and witnessed what happened to LJ, decide to make jokes.
Dizzle: Looks like that plan blew up in his face!
Frangilla: It really just blew up everywhere!
The two share a laugh. The other tributes find them too weird to come close, allowing them to get on a boat and sail off.
Drea has also managed to hop onto a boat after gathering supplies. As she is about to sail off, she notices Lime innocently climbing onto her boat. She considers killing him, but her instincts tell her not to. So she sails off knowing he is aboard, and lets him enjoy the ride.
Meanwhile, Lawrence has found himself a couple spears, and has used them to attack Yawn.
Yawn: There are s-several reasons you shouldn’t attack me. One... I’m not homophobic. You are gay, so it would make more sense for you to—
Lawrence sighs and throws his spear right into Yawn’s mouth, shutting him up once and for all.
BOOM!
Lawrence, now having weapons and supplies, tries to find his fellow careers.
Meanwhile, Rick seems to have been targeting Xanthos. As soon as he finds him, he walks over him and begins attacking him in the most violent ways possible. However, this begins to triggers something in Xanthos. He seems to get angrier and angrier, until...
Xanthos suddenly grabs Rick’s sword mid swing. His hand begins bleeding from the sharp blade, but he doesn’t seem to notice. Xanthos suddenly then yanks Rick’s sword out of his hands and then starts using it against him.
Rick tries to run, but Xanthos throws the sword right through his chest as if it were a spear.
Rick falls to his knees, and then Xanthos suddenly walks up to him and starts yanking the sword upward. The sword slices through Rick’s upper chest, and eventually through his neck. He dies moments afterward.
BOOM!
Xanthos then takes the sword, and nothing else, and hops on his own boat.
After witnessing Rick get brutally murdered, Lawrence begins looking for his fellow careers. He then notices Shimmer and Tryffiny and meets up with them.
Shimmer realizes there’s only one career left that’s still alive other than them, and that it’s the show off.
Tryffiny: Oh look, there she is.
Tryffiny points over to Emily seen sneaking up on 2 unsuspecting twins.
Kyle and Kyla are trying to gather supplies when suddenly Emily grabs Kyla. Kyla kicks and screams, but Emily slices her throat with her large knife as she looks straight into the camera for all of Panem to see. Kyle can only watch.
BOOM!
Emily then looks at Kyle and prepares to slaughter him too until Shimmer suddenly grabs her and pulls her toward a boat she and the other careers have picked out.
Shimmer: Save your energy for a tribute who’s actually a threat!
Emily: But we can easily kill him right now! He—
Emily suddenly realizes that Kyle is gone, and has no idea where he is.
The four remaining careers then get on their boat and sail off.
Aidan and Ess seemed to have been waiting for the careers to leave. After they do, they both meet up with each other and collect what they still can of the remaining supplies.
However, Bliss comes out of nowhere and starts attacking them both.
Bliss gives them a few minor cuts and then starts trying to stick her knife straight into Ess’s chest. Ess pushes the knife away with all the strength she can muster and Bliss tries to plunge it downward, until...
BOOM!
An arrow suddenly flies through Bliss’s eye, and she drops dead.
Ess, thankful that Aidan saved her life, gives him a hug. The two then hop onto a boat and sail off.

The cornucopia is now empty... almost.
Realizing that there are no more people in the cornucopia, Logan comes out of hiding. He had decided to hide in a boat until everyone was gone, and now he has the cornucopia to himself... or so he thinks.
As he collects what’s left of the supplies, Kaay watches him from a distance. She had copied his strategy and is watching him to decide what to do next.

-𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲-
Drea has sailed all the way to the edge of the arena, on a small beach. It is one of the only areas in the arena that is completely dry (well... the sandy parts anyway).
Drea watches Lime crawl off, and then run to the edge of the beach where a long hill awaits.
Drea: STOP!
Lime suddenly stops. This is the first time that he has realized Drea is aware of his existence.
Drea then picks up a seashell nearby and throws it at the hill. Not even a foot away from the hill, the shell hits an invisible wall.
Drea: They put a force field around the arena. The only way out of here is to win.
Lime: H-how did you know about me?
Drea: Did you seriously think I couldn’t see you climb on my boat?
Lime: ...
Drea: I’m not gonna kill you, if that’s what you’re wondering.
Lime suddenly looks relieved.
Drea: Hey, don’t look too relaxed! I’m not a pacifist either.
Lime: What... what does that word mean?
The two are silent for a moment. Suddenly, they both begin laughing.

Drea and Lime spend the rest of the day on the beach. It is now dark outside. Lime suddenly gets a fun idea.
Lime: Let’s swim in the ocean!
Drea: No! Wait-
Drea resists at first, but then feels the urge to get in the water. She instead encourages Lime to jump in. The two then swim for a few minutes.
Lime: See how long I can hold my breath!
Lime then dives underwater.
As Drea is smiling, she suddenly sees lights from a lighthouse in the distance begin to spin.

She notices the entire sea seems to be freezing. She suddenly looks worried.
Drea: Lime! Lime, get out of the water!
Lime cannot hear her. As Drea begins swimming to the beach, the water above him freezes over.
Drea attempts to make it back to the beach, but she’s too late. She feels the surface of the water freeze over her neck, and is surprised to feel that she can still move under the ice. It would seem that only the surface of the water froze, like on a lake.
However... Lime was completely underwater when the surface froze. He now has no air and is unable to escape.
Drea cannot do anything to help. She is stuck in place with only her head sticking out of the water. She can only hear Lime’s muffled screams for help as she desperately tries to break free from the ice, until... all she hears is silence.
BOOM!
Drea then realizes that Lime has drowned. And she, for the time being, is now stuck in place. She can’t even turn around to view the dead tributes being projected in the sky.

Only 14 tributes remain after that crazy first day. We now know of the arena’s first event. Who will survive this crazy event, and who will eventually fall victim to it? Find out a couple days from now when I post the episode for Day 2!
