Animal Album Ranking

Aug 28, 2021 by Jaxon
imageHello fellow animals, here we are the start of this journey I have been debating doing for months but am finally doing. The reason this took so long was this album right here... was she Keshas best entry? No. But did she supply me with banger after banger to produce a this masterpiece of an album that was extremely hard to rank? Yes. Like I literally mean it when I say this album was extremely hard to rank, I didn't do the deluxe version bc c u next tuesday is on her Cannibal EP but literally 13/14 of these songs on this list are S tier level and some of these ranks really could change on any given day depending on my mood.

Animal was the first album I ever bought with my own money as a wee little 8 year old and I played her on repeat, and I still do. The process I have for this system is, since I am a professional and am already very familiar with her music, I am going to give the album a listen-through and rank her from there. So let's get to the ranks glitter whores!

14th: Stephen
This is the only miss for me on the album, and she isn't even a miss anymore?? She is strongly in the C+/B- tier and while I used to skip it every time, I do have a newfound appreciation for her and will not hit the skip anymore. She is just kinda the easiest weakest entry for me and isn't anything special. It is probably the only song I don't know every word to, and honestly it is what is is. Sorry to any Stephen fans out there!

13th: Animal
The title track, a banger, honestly a great song. S tier level without a doubt and obtaining the lucky #13 spot. Why is she so low? Well, the billboard remix on the Cannibal EP really outsold her. I am not a remix fan, but wow she really improved upon her and added some elements that turned the song into a much more memorable moment.

12th: Tik Tok
Here is probably the most #contro ranking on this list. Tik Tok is the Kesha song, honestly. It is probably the song she is most well known for and I do love it so much. I mean the bridge leading into her saying 'The party don't start till I walk in' is legit one of her most iconic lines of all time and I make sure to hit it every time the song is on. However, despite all the iconic one liners and just being that Kesha song... she doesn't live up to the other singles on the album for me. Spoiler Alert: This album will be 100% very single heavy because she really did her marketing right to get her name out there, and Tik Tok served its purpose... but she ranks here for me.

11th: Kiss N Tell
This is where the ranks start to get VERY painful for me. Kiss N Tell is iconic. I know every word. She makes a small dick comment. The beat is iconic. The lyrics are iconic. The vocals are iconic. She hits every mark... but here she sits at 11th place?? Its painful but honestly I feel like there is a song similar on the album that just does it better and is more memorable. Going into this, I was not expecting this song to be this low... but there really are some hidden gems in this album and tough ass competition.

10th: Party At A Rich Dudes House
Back when I first got this album? This song really would have been much higher on this list. I absolutely adored it? It's fun and just the right amount of trashy. I was SO proud of myself when I learned her part where she started talking pretty fast after saying she threw up in the closet and didn't care. This song is great? It's just such a fun Kesha party song. But it is also probably one of the lesser impressive songs on the album held up by my nostalgia towards it. I loved it then, I loved it now. I want to go to a party at a rich dude's house with Kesha.

9th: Blind
This song is actually such a good mix of style? It has a slower (slow for Kesha Animal era) beat, but still has her signature iconic lyrics, and also has a part where she turns more into her party girl self. I actually really fuck with the message of this song... like Kesha ALWAYS knew her worth, and she is not putting up with no man who treated her wrong. Her vocals really pop off here IMO and definitely was a tease to the fact that this God among men could sing without autotune which she proved later on in her career to all the haters. The set up of this song is so beautiful and she really deserves more credit.

8th: Dinosaur
How could somebody... not absolutely adore this song? I mean she taught me how to spell dinosaur and old man, and then absolutely SERVED in the verses of this song. Like the chorus can kind of get old... but like the verses in this song just absolutely pop off. It is so on brand for Kesha and like I really think this song was robbed of being a radio hit?

7th: Dancing With Tears In My Eyes
This is probably the song on the album that really ditches the party girl brand the most and it really worked. Typically a slowed down song among party hit after party hit could really feel out of place and not work, but I think this song really works on this album? Like imagine her purpose... an iconic song thats still upbeat but I can put on when I am sad and can be like #relatable content. I feel like this is probably the most underrated song on the album because I don't ever hear anyone talk about her... but please go listen to this song and tell me it isn't a worthy ass song.

6th: Boots & Boys
This song is such a guilty pleasure for me. I can't put my finger exactly where this song kind of stands out so much to me... maybe its the beat? Maybe it's the way she sounds lowkey seductive while singing this song? Maybe it's the fact all I want in life is to be the boy she wears so pretty while walking around in the city? It kind of hurt to not include her from the top 5 of this album, but this was a ranking full of hard decisions.

5th: Take It Off
Everything about this song is perfect. Having a water bottle full of whiskey? Relatable. A catchy chorus with verses that absolutely slay? Check. Being a notorious single that can still get a party going? Tea. I mean the fact that when she performs this song at concerts people take off their clothes and throw it on stage for her... it just is the full package. It isn't my favorite radio hit from this era from her, but she still lives up to all the potential she had back then and honestly it is one of her best songs... which is the hard thing about Kesha when whatever she touches turns to magic.

4th: Hungover
This song immediately pulls me in. I mean she serves. I can't think of a more Kesha thing than to compare love troubles to being hungover. Her vocals are so impressive in this song, and like the lyrics are just really so meaningful hidden behind this party girl brand she had. I love hungover. She is everything I want her to be. The chorus, verses, bridge, beat, lyrics, vocals.... it's such a standout for me. However, I don't think she beats the last three songs so she just misses out on top 3.

3rd: Backstabber
This is the non-single that absolutely steals the show for me. I would give my left arm to hear Kesha perform this song live because it really is such an all time great from her that I have loved back in the day, and have only grown to love it even more as I've gotten older. I feel like Kesha does diss tracks better than any other artist out there (sorry t-swift) and this song was robbed from finding its place in the hearts of people around planet earth and becoming a staple for her concert hits. If you don't like this song... I just don't know if I could trust your musical taste at all.

2nd: Your Love Is My Drug
If I'm being completely honest... I think this should be the single from Animal that defines the era. It is the opening track to the album, and it sets the tone perfectly for what you're about to get into. The song is so catchy and on brand, it kind of hurts that Tik Tok outsold her. The entire top three of this album can be interchangeable for my favorite, but more-so this song and the #1 on this list. This song is timeless and I absolutely adore everything she gives me every time I listen to her.

1st: Blah Blah Blah ft. 3OH3
Okay... here is my dirty little secret... I was such a 3OH3 stan when their Want album was a thing that existed, so I actually really love the feature on this song. But don't get me wrong, Kesha absolutely outsells them in every way possible on this track. The moment this song starts... you can tell this song is going to be iconic. A cute little story about this song was when I was listening to it in the car as a child, I didn't know 'dick' was a curse word, so my happy ass sang right along to 'don't be a little b---- with your chit chat, just show me where your dicks at' and my cousin tried to get me in trouble for saying it with my mom but I genuinely didn't think I said a curse word so I did NOT get in trouble bc my mom didn't hear me say it. Anyways, yeah... this is the IT animal song for me I guess. I don't feel bad for feeling that way and she is an absolute serve. Every lyric in this song pops off to another level for me, and honestly the music video is kind of iconic.

SO, yeah, here is Animal. This will probably be the most single top ranked album out there with 3/4 of her singles being in my top 5. They kind of hit different and this album is so full of nostalgia for me and still lives up for me to this day. I can't wait to show my future kids it one day :').

Title track is the best song in her entire discography. This album has very few skips though and I think it was only downhill from here.
Sent by Galaxies,Aug 28, 2021
ManniBoi every song on this album is that bitch LOL.
Galaxies I just like the BillBoard Remix more... but I would have to disagree its the best. But yeah this is a no skip album for me 100%
Kesha it amazes me how she kept up her quality throughout her entire career. Every album is good IMO.
