After days of indecisiveness over the Battle Back...
tbrown_47 we have decided you will rejoin the game!
FromAWindow I'm sorry boo, it was so close. Like I said, we did spend days delaying the already long delayed return because we couldn't decide.
konohavillage1 thank you so much for your participation and we appreciated your choices all throughout the competition but unfortunately your submission was not a top contender.

Let's get into whatever round this is, named DOLLHOUSES & CASTLES!
This is MY PERSONAL ROUND BABES <3
You are once again tasked with two submissions and these submissions are going to encompass two certain genres/sounds of music that are very near & dear to my tastes!
I will be providing you with two examples for each.
DOLLHOUSES:
Dollhouse (Melanie Martinez): of course the inspiring song for this part of the name, Dollhouse tells the dark truths of a seemingly perfect family to a slightly creepy yet also upbeat tune. The darkness of the song then in a way also hide behinds a lighter tune, so we see two sorts of dollhouses/masks here.
Serial Killer (Lana Del Rey): Again, here we have another dark message hidden behind a more positive/upbeat sound.
Songs with deep meaning, talking about how they hide their issues is pretty essential to the round because that is my vision of a dollhouse, it's not playing with dolls, it's the facade and what it hides, and the darkness itself hidden behind lighter sounds like in the examples would be interesting too!
CASTLES:
Castle (Halsey) - one of my fave songs since forever, very boss bitch vibes like hell yeah she's gonna take over her kingdom and go to war if she has to.
When it's All Over (Raign) - submitted in season 2 of my music game, I liked it a lot, it has a very triumphant sound to it, I love the vibes, it's great for a reference song.
What are the vibes we want to see? Indie, powerful, triumphant, kingdom, war, etc. These two songs both are great examples!!
Dollhouse Theme: One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death - Bring Me The Horizon feat. Amy Lee
I chose this song because it is just so beautiful and powerful and heartbreaking all at once. Amy Lee's voice just sucks you in and Oli's really blends well together to create this ballad. At first listen, it sounds like a song about a relationship but Oli's original meaning to the song is the conflict between Mother Nature and Humanity and how they are killing each other. It's such a beautiful song and dark as well so I felt this was perfect for this catagory without going with the obvious QUEEN Melanie Martinez <3
Castle Theme: Control - Halsey
Maybe this is a bit of a risk choosing A Halsey Badlands song after the example song being off the same album but this song is one that couldn't fit more perfectly for me and my music taste. This song started my inspiration to write fantasy stories and I've fallen deeply in love since. With this song, it really gives me villain dark backstory vibes of them roaming their empty castle. Someone who exudes power and pain.
This theme made me think of this song pretty quickly. It's really upbeat and catchy but the meaning is pretty sad. The verses are what the singer is really feeling but the chorus is fun and catchy about his "friends." To me it's a play on loneliness and mental health. I'm not sure if it is the actual meaning but it feels like his "friends" are imaginary but he loves them because they don't judge him, since he made them up.
Castle:
I came across this song a month ago and enjoyed it and thought it was great for this. The music just pumps me up. Feels like you're getting ready for a battle. I really like the theme and the lyric "They'll be calling me royalty". Gets me hype.
I feel like I'm gonna get the boot again, but here are my picks.
Dollhouse: Picking this song because it's a cute song about a beautiful woman whose beauty is literally skin covering her pain and insecurities
Castles: A bit unconventional, but picking this song because it has that "new guy in town" feel. I'm imagining a wandering vigilante who travels from kingdom to kingdom and goes wherever the wind carries him. Whenever he arrives at a new place, people can immediately tell he's an outsider and are intrigued. He arrives, fulfills his purpose, and the wind carries him away again.
Dollhouse:
I picked Sia’s Chandelier Bc on the surface it’s just this fun song about partying but the deeper meaning is drowning your problems with alcoholism, only for it to reappear in the morning.
Castles:
I chose KB’s Armies. This is my go to workout song. It’s about overcoming whatever adversity you face, even when you are alone, Bc you have the God of Angel armies by your side.. “Bring the war, I got a army.”
Dollhouse: the last great american dynasty - Taylor Swift
This song fits the theme perfectly. It's about a woman who was seen as crazy, delusional, and worthless by everyone at the time, but those judgments were hardly justified. She still needed to live her life healthily and she chose to acknowledge it, even though it's wrong. I think this song is lyrically genius and with its simplistic production, the authenticity of the song is greatly highlighted.
Castle: Radioactive - Imagine Dragons
This song is legendary. It talks about a conformist society and one's needs to break out. The production on this song (the pounding of the drums, the distortion on the voices, the chanting) gives off the apocalyptic feel and it fits the theme well in my opinion.
Now when I think of a dollhouse, I picture secrets hidden behind a plastic wall. I picture something cheerful as a toy, but with the twist that it can hide almost anything when the doors are shut. That’s why I chose this song. The music isn’t super upbeat, however the message is seemingly cheerful, being a guy in love and can’t get enough of his partner. However, when you take a minute to absorb the lyrics, you can see he is discussing his personal cocaine addiction and is using the concept of a love interest to mask it.
Now this is an interesting theme. It was giving me a lot of trouble because I wanted to show triumph and fight without directly talking about kingdoms. I think this song does a great job of highlighting more personal battles and victories. The metaphorical kingdoms that are at war are society and all of the people who they deem as outcasts. In this song, we listen as a person who doesn’t fit in to what society sees as normal finally accepts themself and will continue fighting the never-ending battle that they endure.
^Paper Love by Allie X is a song with a good beat and vocals that are easy to listen to, but the lyrics are sad and dark. The music video is interestingly eerie too.
Queendom by Aurora is a magical song about acceptance. She’s inviting the underdogs and weirdos to her castle and celebrating everyone’s uniqueness!
