We can't blame the blue print for being low. It did create a world that is loved by many.
At forty is Drag Race USA 1.
CAST: I think for a starter cast it was very good. I liked how there was a different kind of queen representation, and they all had a strength and a weakness. Where it did lack was of course the low amount. Considering this was the first season though, in the world I need to add, I will let it slide.
CHALLENGES: We knew for a season filmed in 2008 that the challenges were not gonna be the way they are in 2023. Looking back there was some great moments. My personal favorite was the very first challenge. For me, I love creating looks out of WTF items. So I really enjoyed a challenge like that being the first test for these girls. If I had to pick my least favorite.....I wasn't feeling the Top 4 challenge. Not that the challenge itself was bad, but rather I was sick of Shannel and Rebecca by that point lol.
WHY IS SEASON 1 SO LOW?: Season 1 has that disadvantage of being the inaugural season. So 10+ years, the challenges have evolved, the queens have more versatility, and the atmosphere as a whole has grown. So for me, it just kind of makes sense for the blueprint to be where it is.
LET'S DISCUSS THE LIP SYNCS: AGAIN, 2008 filming, I am not expecting too much then vs now. But that being said, I was super underwhelmed with all of them apart from two. It was an interesting time because shorter lip sync cuts were okay then. But since we've evolved in the media, you just would never think that this was the thing.
FINAL REVIEW: I did enjoy the season. It was campy and fun. However, since the release, there has been a lot more variety and options. I just don't think to click in and watch it. If you're someone that is new to this series, go ahead and give it a watch. Because old school drag does shine here.
Favorite Queen: Ongina. I love her so much. She brightens the room and was one of the few starlets of the season.
Least Favorite Queen: Rebecca Glasscock. I will say with her she was very young. My issue with her is that I felt like she was a little bratty.
Favorite Lip Sync: Stronger by Britney Spears (Bebe vs Ongina)
Least Favorite Lip Sync: We Break The Dawn (Tammie vs Akashia)
