Division. The group was divided, if you could even call it a group anymore. Carlos was running through the brush of the forest as quickly as possible to get to the valley with the town in it. He saw the tops of their buildings while he was going to the bathroom and walked toward it to get a closer look while the chaos back at the gas station with Jemima was ensuing. The first thing he saw was a fairly large hospital building with a banner hanging off the side that read "Survivors Welcome" The he heard Jemima scream...
Fast forward to the present, Carlos was running Allan to that hospital just praying that he hold on long enough to get help. Also praying that there are people in the hospital to give him help. There wasn't any time to debate whether or not he should've stayed and let Joyce work on Allan or not, there were 2 reasons why Carlos decided not to do it. 1. He'd seen stab wounds through the chest before and if it wasn't fatal within minutes then the victim would need a lot of treatment that a crippled woman with a medkit from a plane couldn't give. 2. He looked in Joyce's eyes when she told him to bring Allan over to her. She said she would operate on Allan but the way she looked at Allan was like the way you'd look at a body before you gave it an autopsy. Carlos needed someone confident to work on Allan and Joyce wasn't that, even though he knew that leaving Joyce behind could be dangerous for her he had no time to think about that stuff. He was getting close to the hospital...
Joyce sat in the gas station and tried to think of something she could do to get to Carlos, or just be able to move period. Jemima had made sure that Joyce had no way to move or protect herself. The only thing remotely close to Joyce was a chair so that she could prop herself up to walk when it was time, the only thing Joyce could think of was that now is the time. Joyce needed to move one way or another, she didn't care how much it hurt.
Carlos had finally gotten down the hill of the valley and was at the backdoor of the hospital. He was going to be very cautious about all of this, even though he needed to be quick to save Allan it wouldn't do him any good to get them both killed. Carlos looked in the window next to the doors and his heart sank. There were no people on the floor, but there were walkers. Not a huge amount like what you'd expect from a hospital but that meant that there weren't any people. Carlos was panicking on the inside and began to hyperventilate a little but. Was there any way that he could get Allan back to Joyce in time? Was there any point? What if Allan was already dead and he was just waiting to turn and get Carlos? Just then Carlos noticed something inside the building that suprised him immensly. The flourscent lights above the walkers were working! Most of them were broken and just barely flickering but they were getting electricity! Carlos wasn't sure whether there were people at the power plant still alive or whether the hospital had a backup generator that's still working after a month and a half somehow but it was working! Carlos barely knew a thing about medical treatment but if he could get Allan into an emergency room without alerting any walkers then he could maybe stabilize him and then work on getting Joyce down here to operate on Allan with the medical supplies that she needed to help him. Carlos sneaked in the door as quietly as possible with Allan slumped over his shoulders. Allan wasn't too heavy and Carlos had lifted bigger men than him to safety so it wasn't too big of a deal. A walker did notice them walking in the doors because of the opening noise the door made but that was ok because Carlos was right next to a pull door that led up the stairs, let's see a walker work a pull door. On the second floor Carlos ran over to a directory sign and read what was on each floor. He learned that the emergency room was on the 4th floor and made his way up there. He was pleased to not see any walkers on the 2nd floor but when he opened the door to the 4th floor he was shocked.
People. Real. Alive. People on the 4th floor. They stared at him as oddly as he stared at them. Carlos had almost forgotten that there was a dying man in his arms because of how strange it was to see people without guns or bites. When he finally snapped out of it he told the people (1 man and 2 women) that his friend needed help. The man asked him if Allan had a bite and Carlos informed him that it was just a stab wound (Carlos almost wanted to laugh from the way that he said that it was "just" a stab wound. Pretty morbid humor though...) The people immediately showed Carlos into an emergency room where he set Allan down a table and one of the woman put on a surgical mask while the other cut Allan's shirt off. Carlos didn't think that he was that afraid blood but when they flipped Allan onto his stomach and revealed the stab wound Carlos almost threw up, it was bad. The man (Who introduced himself as Stanley) escorted Carlos out of room to keep him from actually throwing up and told Carlos that he should just wait. Carlos then remembered that Joyce was back at the gas station and told the man that he needed to go get her. Stanley said that he was crazy to go up there because a bunch of violent rednecks run that town and had probably already killed Joyce, Carlos decided to tell Stanley all about that later.
He made his way up to the gas station, he wasn't in the clear yet with Allan but there was hope; there was so little hope anymore. Carlos flew out of the brush to see that the gas station was filled with walkers, everywhere. Carlos looked around to see if Joyce escaped, he just hoped that she had escaped but he saw no sign of it. The walkers began noticing that Carlos had just arrived and began walking towards him and that's when Carlos decided that he needed to go now if he wanted to keep the walkers from invading the hospital. But then he noticed the walker crawling a little ahead of the pack... It was Joyce... Carlos had never seen one of his friends as a walker before so the sight kind of disturbed him. Both of Joyce's legs were completely missing, Carlos wondered if this was his fault. He did so much to save Allan from dying that me may have killed Joyce in the process. He broke her crutches and took away her weapon so that she was completely defensless against the walkers, she must've felt so helpless as they surrounded the gas station while she could do nothing to stop it. Carlos ran away crying, crying for the first time since this whole epidemic had started. What if Allan didn't pull through? What if everything he did was for nothing and all he did in the process was kill Joyce?
Would Carlos be able to live with himself?
