I've been pondering this whole college cheating scandal ever since it erupted and I finally have some thoughts about it. Any kid who got into college or university only because their parent or parents 'donated' money to a post-secondary institution should be kicked out or asked to voluntarily withdraw. The kid can then be invited to re-apply to the school on their own merits. I don't think the same amount would get in if things were done this way because kids of this generation don't know as much about doing things on their own merits as previous generations do. Today's parents don't allow their kids to fail or to learn from mistakes; they just throw fits, drop money on problems to solve them, and get teachers fired if their kid isn't coddled. I also think all those who graduated from schools they got into only after their parents bribed admissions boards should have their diplomas or degrees taken away from them. Why should the kids get to keep something they did not earn from beginning to end?
What really shocked me the most is the fact that Lori Loughlin, who played Aunt Becky on Full House and Fuller House, was one of those who bribed college officials to let their kids into the world of post-secondary education. The character of Aunt Becky stood for honesty, integrity, and hard work, but this scandal shows that the actress is the exact opposite of the character she claimed to love. As much as I love 'Fuller House', I think the best thing for the powers-that-be to do is to discontinue the character of Aunt Becky immediately. That character is based on everything that Lori Loughlin is clearly not and fans don't need to be subject to that kind of an influence. I mean, the cast of Fuller House has publicly expressed hope that the show would be picked up by another network after Season 5. Unless they write Aunt Becky out of the show, that will absolutely not happen. She's not a major character in the show, anyway, so they need to do it. If they don't do it, the show needs to end even before the promised Season 5.
