Jacob Derwin is a castaway from Survivor: Ghost Island and was a member of the ill-fated Malolo tribe, which he deemed the best tribe ever. Jacob found himself on the outs very early, finding it hard to assimilate into his tribe and make solid bonds and connections. This led him to search for the hidden immunity idol, only increasing his outsider status and raising suspicion against him. At some point he lost his shoes, forcing him to walk around the island barefoot.
When Malolo lost the first immunity challenge, Jacob successfully convinced the Naviti tribe into sending him to Ghost Island, protecting him from being voted out at the first tribal council by giving him immunity. Due to this, his tribe had to vote out Gonzalez instead. While at Ghost Island, Jacob found the Legacy Advantage from Game Changer Fan Favorite Sierra Dawn Thomas, giving him the power to will it to someone on the other tribe. He gave it to Morgan on Naviti and then pretended he had an Idol to attempt to alleviate his target.
Upon returning to Malolo, his lie was exposed when he was unable to show the note of his fake Idol. When Malolo lost a second immunity challenge, Jacob attempted a last ditch effort to save himself by approaching Stephanie. His pitch was that Michael was a physical threat and too close to Brendan. His plan did not go into play, as Stephanie joined the majority of Malolo by voting out Jacob in a 5-2-1 vote on Day 6. According to Jacob, Steph, Laurel, and James did consider his plan but opted out. He made a final 3 deal with Steph and Jenna. He considered giving the Legacy Advantage to Desiree because she gave him good vibes but picked Morgan due to her appearing to be capable of going far and being middle-of-the-road.
Jacob is a graduate of Kent State University, where he was a journalism major. He is a Jewish music teacher in Brooklyn, New York. He stated going to therapy after the show to deal with his anxiety and his personal humiliation, as he is a super-fan and wanted to at least make the merge. He started applying to the show when he turned 18. He was also a blogger for the Survivor fan site Inside Survivor.
