Jeff is a retired controversial Major League Baseball player who was a castaway on Survivor: Philippines and a member of the Kalabaw tribe. Right away, he wanted to get rid of Penner and the other returning players, feeling their time is over and that a new person should win. Jeff assumed the leadership position on Kalabaw tribe, all of whom dominated the 3-tribe portion of the game along with Tandang. In order to keep tabs on Penner, whom he still perceived as the enemy, he formed an alliance with him and Carter. Jeff injured his leg early on in the game, and kept that a secret, along with his identity. Dawson, however, knew whom he was. When Matsing was absorbed by the two tribes, Kalabaw received Denise, whom Jeff quickly recruited into his alliance. On Day 12, Dana Lambert quit the game due to her illness, giving Jeff鈥檚 side of the Kalabaw tribe the numbers. Kalabaw lost the next two immunity challenges, and Jeff orchestrated both Dawson and Katie鈥檚 exits one by one, although Katie almost convinced him to target Penner when they had the chance.
The tribes merged on Day 17 and Jeff went to Tandang to scheme about getting rid of Penner. They came up with a plan to split the votes between Penner and R.C., due to Penner having an Idol. Penner played his Idol and Jeff voted for R.C., who went home as a result. The plan was to get rid of Penner next, but their plan was ruined when he won individual immunity. Pete decided to target him, so in response, Jeff and Malcolm tried to recruit the other men and Denise to vote out Pete instead. In the end, Jeff became the second member of the jury in a 5-4-1 vote, voting for Denise to win.
Jeff is the first MLB player to compete on Survivor (preceded and followed by NBA and NFL players) and the second MLB player to be on a reality show, after Steve Smith on The Amazing Race. Jeff was offered a spot to be voted into Survivor: Cambodia, but he was unable to commit at the time and told Probst to contact him again in the future.
