amt week 3 results

Jan 15, 2021 by Absol
It's a sad, sad week, DJs. Unfortunately some people didn't post and I forgot to remind them to in advance, but rules are rules. Heavenlee and pinkiepie512, I must ask you to leave. Hugs.

However, I'm still gonna do judging for the tops and give the rest of you 10-word critiques to give you an idea of how you did. No pink lows this week, because I'm lazy but still want to be consistent in getting these out.

Nalia - this is a little behind my time

AlexaVonTrayne - kind of a bop honestly

ItsAustin - not really a banger

tbrown_47 - was almost in the top but sawayama has better songs

mathboy9 - dissociative identity disorder: the song

judi - high road underrated album this song pretty gud

michelleobama - very fun and dance-y ayyy twerks

howlovely - very expected korean synthpop. still good

That leaves us a top five of Becksta, Jana B (artist formerly known as TheGoodMan), HighNoon, Turkey Lee, and Cherita! Let's get down to business.

Becksta20 - Honestly this song is kind of overplayed to death but... it's soooo good so I kinda get it. The instrumental in this song really hits like a truck when it comes to nostalgia my ass was shaking in place. I really do love the completely flippant attitude in this song like you really crashed your car and set fire to your house and you STILL don't give a fuck??? Like damn ain't you worried about your insurance or some shit... iconic. No wonder they're called Icona Pop.

TheGoodMan - I think the mental image you gave me of this song with that video of Scarlett Johanssen really sold this for me. I kind of love the drum-n-bass breakdown it works really well with the vocals that are super like creepy and robotic. This was definitely a wacky banger and you knew your audience here, so well done.

HighNoon - This was one of the songs I didn't really know what to expect coming in - going into it it was very like anime intro which was like... okay serve I can get into her but then it just went like batshit insane, which was great. I don't even know how to describe half of what I'm hearing in this song but the vocal edits that make her voice super robotic and gritty where she's like "nobody knows akjsdfklsdjakflsa" whatever she said she was RIGHT. Honestly I do find it funny how you just started sending jpop after I kinda dragged Yeah Yeah Yeahs like I wanna be over here like "omg I don't just like whatever jpop" but you're kinda 2 for 2... anyways the dance break is... legendary I really like the guitars and the fucking chaotic as shit synths. Also her gay friend on the keyboard did the damn thing. Idk what else to say this was just a hit on all fronts.

turkeylover - Where's the bentley at??? This song is honestly the biggest shitpost ever I realllllllly love GFOTY she really makes music for girls like me (kinda). I really like how chaotic this song is the vocal samples and synths just really hit, especially with the chorus. I think GFOTY definitely has better, more chaotic/completely insane bangers, but this is definitely still a good one. The best part of this song by far is the bridge with the voicemail from some random ass guy and the super pretty triumphant synths... yeah. yeah. That part. I'm happy for her and I'm glad we're at a point where you can just make a song about fucking men even if I don't personally relate. Men. Ew.

cheritaisdelicious - This was honestly not something I really saw you sending, like this super weird, spacy psych-pop angle I was like "who is this cherry???" it was a really big shift from the last two weeks without feeling like inauthentic I totally see why you like this. That being said, I ALSO really like this as evidenced by you being in the top, the horn sample is like super cool and wacky, definitely left a solid impression right out of the gate. I like the drumline and the little tambourine(?) that come in during the chorus that's very like catchy and repetitive I've got it stuck in my head and wanna go listen again... she can say she can say she can say she can say she can say she can say. Also on that note I think the lyrics of this song are really cool the whole concept of this woman leaving a #toxic lover and biding her time... definitely a good angle. I guess my one tiny gripe is that the vocals are mixed a little weird especially on the front end of the song, it resolves itself later on tho. This was amazing.

Anyways our winner is HighNoon if that wasn't obvious by how much I wrote about that song. Sorry if this is phoned in but... meh I'm just lazy since two people didn't post. Next episode will be better and also posted in a bit.
