My Caramoan cast ranking.

11 zimdelinvasor, May 12, 2013

This was a really, really lame cast.
20. Phillip
I said before the season started that the only good thing about Phillip coming back was that it would be literally impossible for him to be worse than he was in Redemption Island.
And coming out of the season.. the only positive thing I can say about him is "Well, at least it wasn't as bad as Redemption Island."
Phillip is gross and he deserves the blame for many of the editing issues that I will touch upon later.
19. Brandon
At first I took Brandon Hantz's #SurvivorBreakdown seriously and was torn on him, because on one hand it was horrible and uncomfortable, but on the other hand it was totally unique and he did call out Phillip.
But now I realize that it was just shameless self-promotion because the Hantzes have a TV show coming up, so I'm totally set in the fact that I hate Brandon for being a famewhore. Also, I choose to blame him for Erik starving to death. At least this virtually guarantees that we will never see a Hantz on Survivor (or Big Brother but who cares) again. I heard he wasn't going to be at the reunion, but I'm not watching that (because I heard the words "Boston Rob" and "Phillip" in the same sentence), so someone let me know whether that was legit.
18. Cochran
Cochran's win could have been sort of okay if it had been mixed in with doubt like it was in the finale, and also if he hadn't spent his time shit-talking everyone to show how confident he is, and also if he hadn't gone on in a secret scene about targeting Malcolm for being more attractive than he is... so, basically, if he weren't Cochran. Also, he pulled a JT, which I don't have anything to say about but I still feel like it warrants mentioning. Cochran wasn't as horrible as Brandon or Phillip but he still did a good job of filling the "why are you still here" spot after they were gone and he's still one of my two least favorite winners of all time.
17. Francesca - Not really her fault that she's this low, because it's not really due to anything she did, but I hate that she was out first. I'd rather have seen her go further. Because her character is "was out first twice" and I wish she hadn't been out first twice, I dislike her as a character this season.
16. Matt - Taking out Laura is unacceptable when it's your only moment in the entire season. Spoiler alert: Laura does well in this.
15. Reynolds - I always wanted to like Reynolds because he has a lot of charisma and could be a good character, but he totally flatlined post-merge and never had a consistent role prior to that, so I can't say I like him. He basically had no role in the storyline so when he was out I was just like "Oh. That's the guy who got all the air time early on"? He could have been awesome, but he wasn't, so...
14. Hope
13. Allie - She is one notch above Hope because of her Twitter bitterness (Twitterness???) about the reunion show bullshit.
12. Michael - I..

So here are the spoilers that I am taking into account.
- The final three is Cochran, Dawn, and Sherri.
- Erik has a #SurvivorBreakdown at the final four and exits, either through a quit or an evacuation from a panic attack or whatever it is.
- Brenda and Eddie get fifth and sixth in SOME ORDER (Brenda is generally said to get 5th, but that's not ~universally~ stated so I'm not counting it.)
- Brenda is backstabbed by Dawn after giving up the family reward to her and calls Dawn a "killer" in her jury speech.

FINAL 12 (JUROR #1)
Malcolm wins Immunity.
Corinne is completely, 100% sick of Phillip's bullshit, so she goes to the 4 Fans and says that she'll join them in voting him out, which gives them half the votes if they flip one more person and a majority if they flip two. Eddie and Reynold easily get Malcolm and Erik, and Erik ropes in Brenda, so they now have a solid 7-person majority to take him out. Knowing that Malcolm has the Bikal Idol and there's no risk in it, Corinne tells Dawn and Cochran about the plan to take out Phillip and tells them that the votes are there anyway. Dawn goes with it, but Cochran doesn't, and Malcolm - knowing he has the Idol and there's no risk - tells Andrea about the plan. Andrea doesn't like it, but she goes with it, and the Gota women (Andrea, Brenda) decide to tell Sherri as well. Phillip finds himself blindsided 10-2, thinking that the Favorites are sticking together to vote out Reynold.
Votes on Phillip: Eddie, Reynold, Malcolm, Erik, Brenda, Michael, Corinne, Dawn, Andrea, Sherri
Votes on Reynold: Phillip, Cochran
11. CORINNE KAPLAN (JUROR #2)
Malcolm wins Immunity.
Andrea has wanted Corinne out from the start and really doesn't like the way she turned on Phillip. She went with the plan because she had no other options, but she was looking to take Phillip to the end as a goat, so Andrea tells the Favorites that they'll still be up 6-4 even if they take out one of their own. She says that they need to stick together, and that if Corinne turned on Phillip, she could turn on any of them. Malcolm, Erik, and Brenda from NuGota are all on board with the plan. Cochran doesn't like the idea and insists that he won't vote for Corinne, but Dawn says that she'll go with it. The four Fans hop on board with it, willing to go with anything that keeps them in the game, so Corinne - who thinks that the Favorites are now regrouping and taking out Reynold as the biggest threat - is blindsided 9-2.
Votes on Corinne: Andrea, Brenda, Erik, Malcolm, Eddie, Reynold, Sherri, Dawn, Michael
Votes on Reynold: Corinne, Cochran
10. MICHAEL SNOW (JUROR #3)
Malcolm wins Immunity.
With Corinne out, Malcolm says he needs a 'new Corinne' - someone who knows he has the Idol who can warn him to play it if he's in..

My Ideal Rest-of-Season as of Ep 6

0 Qwerty3000, Mar 23, 2013

Dawn/Cochran/Corinne flip to the Fans and blindside Phillip, 5-1
Sherri/Eddie/Reynold decide they have to work together, Andrea flips to Fans, they target Malcolm, Malcolm idols out Eddie, 3-4
Sherri flips to Faves, they vote out Andrea 4-2
Merge, new alliance forms seemingly randomly of Brenda/Erik/Sherri/Dawn/Malcolm/Julia/Cochran/Michael, forcing Corinne and Reynold into an alliance, Corinne pretends to have the idol, the majority votes for Reynold, Reynold idols out Cochran, 2-8
Brenda finds Reynold's replanted idol, Erik finds Malcolm's replanted idol, Julia (of all people) randomly flips to Corinne/Reynold, majority targets Corinne, Michael doesn't want to vote Corinne out so he votes with her/Reynold/Julia, in the end no one cares because Corinne goes 5-4 anyway
Reynold flips to majority, everyone but Dawn/Malcolm flips to new minority, Reynold gets voted out, 5-3
Julia/Sherri/Michael decide they have to stick together, but none of the Favorites will flip, Michael gets voted out, 4-3
Sherri flips and backstabs Julia, 5-1
Sherri wins immunity, Brenda/Erik vote out Malcolm, 3-2
Dawn wins immunity, orchestrates a 2-1-1 Brenda blindside
Erik has a #SurvivorBreakdown because of the blindside
Sherri beats Dawn in the jury vote

WINNER #27 - DENISE STAPLEY (SURVIVOR)

2 Inky, Mar 2, 2013

I always knew there was something badass about Denise just from her pre-game material alone. She had an interesting job (Sex Therapists ftw!), she was built like an ox (all those marathons are good for something it seems!) and she had a fantastic head on her shoulders, to the point where I'd put her in my Top 3 pre-show power rankings.
And when the season started, she did not disappoint. Instead of being portrayed as a physical liability like most older women on tribes are (hai Nina), she was instead one of the most prominent members of the tribe to the point where she didn't recieve a single vote pre-dissolution. She was even aligned with Malcolm, who was my favourite guy in the season, so everything was just coming up roses for them.
...well apart from Matsing sucking like no tribe has sucked before. Whilst I was happy that she managed to survive when Matsing was brought down to two people, I wasn't happy post-dissolution that a) she disappeared off the face of the season, and b) she was staying over all my favourites on Kalabaw. I don't hold it against her in the ranking, but it's just one of those things I couldn't get past.
Meanwhile, thanks to post-merge being a tribute to Jonathan-god, Malcolm-god, Abi-goddess and Lisa-goddess, Denise kind of disappeared into the background appearing only when needed, which is when I knew she was going to win. I knew Malcolm was appearing in Caramoan, so he was out, Abi was lol, Lisa was getting a fan favourite edit and she had no shot with the jurors, and Skupin was busy having his character destroyed.
Am I happy with her winning? Hell yeah I am. Were there points I wasn't cheering for her unconditionally like I was 99% of the season? Well, unfortunately yes. I was kind of a bleeding heart for Abi at her infamous #SurvivorBreakdown Tribal Council, so I took any criticism towards her, legitimate or not, as hostility, so when Denise provided her (in retrospect, kind of warranted) points towards Abi I wasn't that much of a fan. That was only one moment in a season though, so it's all good.
Denise was a thoroughly satisfying winner to an adequately satisfying season, so I'm always going to be appreciative of what she brought to Survivor, even if she wasn't the main star of the show.

SAVAII REWATCH, EP. 1

10 zimdelinvasor, Feb 10, 2013

I'm powering through a rewatch of South Pacific - but only the Savaii scenes, I don't care about Upolu - and going to do a cast ranking after every episode or two. I just finished the premiere, and here are my thoughts on the cast, ranked by preference:
9. Jim
@_@ Holy fuck. He's awful right from the start. Jim is ridiculously paranoid, first off. When Ozzy pitched to keep Semhar because he thought she'd be stronger than Cochran, Jim gave a confessional that was basically to the effect of "WHY DOES HE WANT TO KEEP /HER/ WHY DOES HE HAVE A REASON TO KEEP /HER/ IT'S ONLY ROUND ONE THAT MAKES ME WANT HER OUT MORE!!!" while ignoring the fact that Ozzy and Semhar had ~no~ alliance and he was the only one thinking this hard on round one. He's so fucking paranoid, but because people jerk off to gamebots, he gets credit for being a good player (which he isn't) because people mistake "making asinine decisions due to fear of threats that don't exist" with "playing a good strategic game." Blegh. Furthermore, he was a fucking douchebag to Semhar after the challenge; when she was telling him why she was upset with his decision to make faces as she spoke (which was immature as fuck, incidentally), he started talking over her and explaining how he was more upest than her, which is ridiculous. He's also fucking sexist, because he basically implied that the only reason Ozzy wanted to keep Semhar was because of her body, and he lied about his occupation for no reason whatsoever (other than, again, paranoia), talking about how he's the COOL teacher at the high school where he works. What a gross douchebag. Wow. It takes a lot for me to hate a contestant only one episode into a season, but Jim is pretty much a horrible contestant.
8. Cochran
Cochran's not much better, but at least he has a reason to get characterization. I LOVED Cochran up until the merge the first time I watched, but holy shit, he sucks already. First of all, I HATE the way they portray him as basically being the only superfan who cares about the game and shit. Like, Mark and Sophie and tons of other people all watched every episode - why is Cochran special? Just because he has glasses and looks like a nerd, they show him as being the huge fan and Probst jerks off over the fact that Cochran - GASP - knew Coach and Ozzy had each been on two seasons before? (...really obscure trivia there) Ugh. That's annoying as fuck.
But I wouldn't mind it if he were likable, which he isn't at all. It's weird how someone can be so mind-bogglingly insecure (basically having an anxiety attack over possibly being the first boot; calling himself a pathetic twerp; borderline refusing to swim and socialize with the tribe) and also so delusional (calling himself the most Survivor-savvy player ever; saying he has great social skills, charm, and humor.) He also likes to hallucinate, because in his voting confessional, he said Semhar questioned his intelligence and will to be in the..

Survivor: Palau Ranking -- 10th-8th

1 zimdelinvasor, Nov 23, 2012

Continuing my Palau cast ranking while the season is still fresh in my mind from my rewatch.
10. Caryn
Caryn is a kind of strange contestant in that she breathes character but doesn't actually deliver much. She has this weird aura about her where she should be a huge character, but they just didn't show her much or she didn't act on it. However, when she did deliver, she delivered very strongly. Her fight with Katie and her jury speech were incredible. Best of all, though, was her boot Tribal Council, where she was so sick of everyone lying that she had a major #SurvivorBreakdown and completely called out everyone's strategies. Caryn's shining moment was to help the Palau endgame be the bitter, dysfunctional clusterfuck it was, and she also prevented us from having to see Stephenie survive past the final seven. Caryn is a solid Survivor contestant. Not great, but solid and I appreciate the role she filled.
9. Gregg
I originally had Gregg a bit higher, one spot above Jenn, but I moved him down after realizing that I liked her role as the anti-Tom player more than I liked his. Gregg was still a solid contestant, though. He was the biggest voice in wanting to get out Stephenie right away, which was good gameplay on his part and also Stephenie was terrible. When she did eventually go out, Gregg was part of an incredibly subtle, backhanded ploy to take out Tom. The plan was to take out Caryn and keep the alliance of five at the end, but then use Katie to vote out Tom. The entire time, he was going to pretend to be loyal under the guise of having taken the five to the end, despite the fact that he was actively plotting against their leader the entire time. Gregg definitely had his moments. I believe he's a really underrated character and I appreciate his role as a strong cutthroat player. I only put him so low because I like the players above him more.
8. Angie
Angie is maybe the most popular contestant from Palau on Tengaged, and I'm also a big fan of hers. The problem I have is that her storyline totally died after the first two episodes. Don't get me wrong - she was fantastic in those first two episodes. She started off as an outsider in ways that connected to her childhood, and she bonded with Coby because of it.. but then, in a huge dick move, he didn't pick her for his tribe, so she was almost eliminated right off the bat. She ended up getting picked for a tribe, so she got a chance to prove herself, but everyone viewed her as weak and she was targeted immediately anyway. She managed to stay, and then dominated the fuck out of the second episode to prove to everyone that she belonged on the tribe. It was an amazing two-episode story arc and Angie really is a nice girl. The problem I have with her is that after that.. she disappeared. She had the hilarious "WE'RE NOT GOING BACK TO IMMUNITY.. i mean tribal council :c" quote, but that's it. For her last three (or was it four? I'm not sure) episodes, she totally fell off the map..

Survivor: Nicaragua Ranking -- #09-#07

5 zimdelinvasor, Nov 10, 2012

I finished my rewatch of Nicaragua, so I am now going to rank the cast! It's getting tougher here. This top nine is brilliant.
#09. DR. JILL BEHM (Espada->La Flor - 13th place)
SUCH A ROBBED CONTESTANT IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD. UGH. Poor, poor Dr. Jill. On the original Espada tribe, her trio managed to take control of the tribe with relative ease. After the Jimmy T boot, all opposition to their leadership was gone, they had the tribe by its balls, and even if they lost every single challenge for the rest of the post-merge, it was still a 100% guarantee that her core alliance of herself, Marty, and Yve would make the merge. They were set to make it all the way. Even IF something went wrong (which was impossible because they held a majority with Dan), they had an Idol, so they were set. Unfortunately, a tribe swap sent the Grandmaster and the Doctor over to La Flor along with the Vile Ogress, so they immediately found themselves outnumbered 6-2. The group ALMOST managed to take control by teaming up with Kelly B and Fabio (IMAGINE THAT ALLIANCE AND TRY NOT TO BREAK YOUR WRIST FROM FANNING SO HARD), but Brenda held too strong choke hold over Kelly B for those plans to ever fully realize. The plan was for the vote to split at the first Tribal Council between Marty and Jill, but Jill told that plan to go fuck itself by winning Individual Immunity, giving herself a 100% success rate in individual challenges when she also won Reward. < 3 The vote ended up splitting between Kelly B and Marty instead, with Kelly B going home and all hopes of a Marty/Jill takeover shattered. Things grew even more grim for Jill when Marty inexplicably gave his Hidden Immunity Idol to Sash. This left the alliance with NO way to get into the majority, and it gave Sash a reason to repay Marty. So when La Flor went to Tribal Council again, Jill was up shit creek without a paddle. She had no way to save herself and was voted out by the majority. :(
I feel SO BAD for Jill. Her Survivor run was going so well and she was playing a brilliant game, until a swap put her at the bottom of the totem pole and all plans to move up were just barely dashed, sending her home right before the merge. If only La Flor had won that challenge, Alina would have gone home instead, and the post-merge would have been much more interesting. Jill's storyline is a tragic one and I love her for it. Even besides that, she was a really nice lady. And let nobody forget that Jill eating clams is what started Holly's magnificent, memorable E2 meltdown. Jill isn't higher because her personality wasn't showcased as much as it could have been, but she caused memorable moments, she was involved in big storylines of the season, she was playing a great game, and ultimately, I was rooting for her hardcore and wish she had gone further. She is a great Survivor contestant.
#08. JIMMY JOHNSON (Espada - 18th place)
Espada's second boot, Jimmy J was undoubtedly one of the bigger characters of the season..

Re-watching Solitary 3.0 (1)

2 zimdelinvasor, Oct 29, 2012

Just re-watched the first episode of Solitary 3.0 and the end of the first Treatment at the start of episode two. Here's my thoughts on the cast so far:
JEN (Web Designer, No Pod)
My thoughts on her didn't change at all. She was around for like.. 1/3 of one episode and did nothing entertaining in that time. She hit the red button and quit something that wasn't even meant to end in a quit just because her arm got tired. Then she whined about how she didn't think the show would be as much physical endurance, which.. fucking what? Have you ever even watched any part of it? What a useless waste of a contestant spot. Worst casting choice ever. Boring and whiny. I'm glad she was out early.
1. JENNIFER (Fashion Model; Loves Serial Killers)
Meh, Jennifer. I don't really dislike her. She was entertaining with Katie and the two of them were one of the more entertaining duos in the pods at the start, and she was pretty tough in the Treatment. Other than that, though, I really don't care about her and I don't even remember her dropping out of the Treatment. She's just sort of there.
2. CEON (Works With Old People)
Ceon is more entertaining than I remembered, actually. His comment on getting old people to beat up J at the door where he bounces was hilarious, and so was his "I'm sweatin' like a prostitute" quote. He had a #SurvivorBreakdown early on but quickly recovered after a hilarious and inspirational phone call with his dad. I like Ceon a lot and I'm happy that he's exceeding my expectations so far.
3. KATIE (Aspiring Actress)
She's fun later on but didn't really do much of anything yet. Nothing that I remember, anyway. She was fun with Jennifer in the original pod but that's about it.
4. ROBROB (Superfan)
How can you NOT love RobRob? He's such a weird, weird guy but in the best possible way. He built his own pod at home, he's obsessed with the number four, he roller blades around in his pod, he made hilariously lame jokes during the segment where everyone found out about each other.. He's a gigantic dork and he is delivering so far. He also gets ridiculously enthusiastic. Like I think he broke his microphone every time he and Sabat finished a round at the start, and he DEFINITELY broke it when he found out he'd won freedom from the Treatment, lol. He's delivering right from the start.
5. MAUREEN (TV Reporter)
Maureen... actually kind of annoys me? I remembered her as being a fun, bubbly little Asian girl or something. But so far, she's bugging me with her whole "I quit because I was being STRATEGIC" thing. I don't know, it's just obnoxious and I think she says it after basically every Treatment. Like.. okay, no, you quit because you were tired, shut up and admit it. Solitary isn't about strategy so don't try to make it be. I liked her in the beginning segment with the pods, but if she keeps going on about how she's ~strategic~ then I'll be sick of her.
6. TRIZZ (Hates Technology)
I wish Trizz had gone..
