Photoshoot #6

"Principles of Art"

Today we are going to have some learnings. We call almost everything as art, so basically your portfolios are some type of art. This week we are going to look not only on the visuals, but also the meaning and principles behind it.

This week you are assigned each a principle of art - Balance, emphasis, movement, proportion, rhythm, unity, and variety; the means an artist uses to organize
elements within a work of art. It is where Adriana came in to play as for her challenge win, she did the assigning of elements.

Your task is to incorporate that particular principle in your photo. If you don't know the meaning of that principle, it is important that you must further research.

24 hours to do the task, below are the selected principles. Goodluck!

Yeah I had lots of trouble with this photoshoot, but I decided to search up examples. I guess mines looks similar. Kind of confused anyways.

Garrett Neff//

Harmony means that all parts of the artwork relate to each other and complement each other. In an image, all the visual elements should be pulled together and creates imagery which every small detail.

Naomi Smalls: Proportions

Proportion refers to the relative size and scale of the various elements in a design. The issue is the relationship between objects, or parts, of a whole. This means that it is necessary to discuss proportion in terms of the context or standard used to determine proportions.

For me I am going to proportion my body to make the photo compelling and interesting. #Proportionizing

Adriana Lima (Emphasis)

I have to say, I took photography class throughout high school and our teacher made us find random images on google and explain how that image used an element or principle of art so this photoshoot is giving me major throwback lol it's pretty much the same thing.

For this photoshoot, I got emphasis. Emphasis in art is defined as an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point. In my photoshoot, Adriana is the one who is the focal point. The camera is focused clearly on her while everything else is blurry/out of focus putting the full emphasis on her.
Tbh, this is also one of my favorite shots of Adriana ever.

Alice Burdeu: Gradation
Gradation is defined as "A way of combining elements by using a series of gradual changes in those elements. (large shapes to small shapes, dark hue to light hue, etc)" I see this as a way of combining a variety of aspects within one shot. It is because of this that I have chosen a photograph which shows a contrast on several levels. It places Alice directly in the centre and highlights her traditional beauty whilst wearing more pastel colours and yellows, this is contrasted by the background in which traditional Australian art work is displayed which creates a dichotomy with Alice's beauty and overall creates a well rounded gradation in the photo. Gradation is also see as the difference in shapes something which can be seen throughout the photo as the separates of the clothing alongside the tones within the background establish a natural contrast. The photograph showcases a more commercial side to Alice whilst still looking high fashion, you could also argue her 1960's styled clothing juxtaposes with the modernism of the overall shot and its placement within a current magazine, establishing an overall gradated and appealing image.

Daniel | Variety | https://prnt.sc/ma4ww9

A principle of design concerned with diversity or contrast. Variety is achieved by using different shapes, sizes, and/or colors in a work of art.

For this test I decided to take the theme to the letter foot.
It brought a diversity of colors, shapes, plants and styles.

Formal clothes with a touch of modernity with glasses, mixed with the delicacy of flowers on the stage, geometric shapes to give movement to the image, all directly linked to my interpretation of what diversity is intertwined with art.

♡MADISON BEER...Movement♡

Movement. "A principal of design used to create the look and feeling of action and to guide the viewer's eye throughout the work of art"

http://www.gotceleb.com/wp-content/uploads/photos/madison-beer/kode-magazine-august-2015/Madison-Beer:-Kode-Magazine-2015--06-662x856.jpg

I think this photo ticks all the boxes, not only does it look like an action shot that creates this feeling of action... but the positioning of my body enhances this as well.

My right arm and leg are out, that's the first thing that should capture the viewer's attention then my arm & leg draw your eyes up my body and right into my gaze which leads the viewer's eye to the other side of the photo.

I also think the space background adds to the shot because if you look at how my hair is stilled it almost gives the illusion of me bounding across the moon with zero gravity!

- Adriana Lima (ParvatiS) = Emphasis
For the most part I think you did a solid job capturing emphasis. However, I’m not a huge fan of this shot as I feel you have done better. The black and white filter helps though place the emphasis on you.

- Alice Burdeu (hazbez94) = Gradation
While I don’t care for the background drawings, as I think it takes away from you, I do love your styling. I also appreciate the description you gave as it helped give context.

- Garrett Neff (Brandonh1) = Harmony
Unfortunately, I was unable to view the link.

- Iveta Mukuchyan (SharonMaItems) = Rhythm
This is a gorgeous shot, but as you admit,  it lacks understanding of what rhythm is in art. With a strong description this would have been a strong shot.

- Kang Daniel (SeongWoo) = Variety
To be honest, I actually really like this shot. It’s different and you incorporated variety while also not doing something cliche. Very well done.

- Madison Beer (Survivorgame1) = Movement
By far one of my favorites of yours this season. You look stunning and the styling is flawless. I will say this is probably the easiest of the group, but you still gave a strong shot.

- Naomi Smalls (Ajathekween) = Proportion
I don’t like the text on this shot and I think you got a hard task this week. However, I appreciate the description you gave.

- Paul Wesley (Tommy123) = Balance
This lack any real explanation. While this is a solid shot, minus the text, it lacks a connection to what you were trying to portray.
