3pi14159: I’m worried this might be a too popular of a submission but it’s the best I can find. I switched songs like 5 times from pop to country to Bob Dylan to another song by Surfaces but ultimately decided on this song bc of how iconic it is
My dad loves this song and used to always play it when I was younger, and I kinda forgot about it throughout most of my teenage years until my senior year HS English teacher referenced the song in a worksheet during class. And the memories just flew into my brain and I kept the song and put it on my playlist.
Fast forward about a year I was going through some really tough times and that’s when the “dont it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone” hit the hardest because it really is true. Those lyrics are definitely in my top 5 of all time because it really has spoke to me to cherish every moment and live in the present because every day is a new chance to live life to the fullest

Obviously this song is a classic but then again…it’s a classic. There’s no doubt that it is a fantastic song and it has a really great message but I’ve heard it many times before. With that being said, even though this wasn’t the most original thing you possibly could have submitted, it is still winning big in this lackluster round.

Very average, sounds like a Walmart commercial but you know what I’m ok with that. Plus I loved your description and reasoning behind submitting this. Big bonus points there.

Oh. I’m- Sorry but I really did not like this. Her voice was incredibly annoying to me, those instrumentals felt like they were burrowing into my head, and that high note should have stayed in the drafts. I would like to thank you for showing that you’re putting effort into this game, and it really shows, with your long descriptions and your strong submissions (besides this one). It doesn’t go unnoticed. However, I’m kind of surprised that you submitted something like this because it’s the first submission of yours I haven’t ranked first. I have no doubt you’ll recover next week though! Good luck next week!

Did I love this? No. Did I like this? Yes. And somehow that’s enough to get second place this round. I actually enjoyed listening to this even though it isn’t a song I would go out of my way to listen to ever again. It seems to be pretty unknown which is cool, and it has great vocals with a fun chord progression. I really didn’t like that part towards the end where she tried to…rap…or something? But other than that this was pretty good.
Humf - 5 Points
Meh. This could very easily move up another spot for me but altogether I can’t justify that. It’s got that catchiness which alone adds some credit, but past that it doesn’t really stand out.

I will say, in the battle of the pink colors, you definitely won. However, I didn’t love the song. Her voice sounds incredibly mainstream, and in some of the verses I was praying she would get back to the chorus because the tone was just not pleasant to listen to. I think the saving grace here were the choruses because those were definitely catchy. I’d say in the future to make sure your song is pleasant to listen to throughout, and not just in certain parts of the song. Best of luck!

How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful by Florence + The Machine
icyz: I chose this song because I think it's so powerful. Florence is not a totally unknown artist, but I think people only pay attention to dog days are over and totally ignore the rest of her art. This song and artist has great meaning in my life, I hope you like it

Maybe I would have liked this a bit more if Florence + The Machine wasn’t literally submitted last round. It’s a solid song don’t get me wrong but it felt like it dragged on a bit too long for me and I couldn’t find myself remembering a single thing after it was over. It just didn’t do much for me. I appreciate the songwriting and instrumentals here but I just can’t put it higher because it was an unmemorable song by an artist who was literally just submitted.

At this point, between these submissions, as long as it’s under the view count limit, I’m throwing modern artist relevancy away. This is a solid song that’s far and away better than most of the others.

You have given yourself two disadvantages this round. First, you submitted an artist that had already been submitted this game. Second, you chose a color that two other people chose. This wasn’t a bad song at all, but I found myself not enjoying this song as much as the other two that used blue. I did like her voice, but I felt the song was too long, and eventually got overly repetitive and boring. I’ve seen you submit better than this so I’m hoping it was just an off week for you and you’ll be able to recover. Upon ranking, I was not expecting to put this so high but pretty much every submission after yours was much much worse. So….. slay I guess!

I was expecting to love this. I was hooked by those first 45 seconds and was super relieved that we actually had an amazing submission this round. And then this house beat came in. And it kinda ruined it for me. Now obviously the song is still good which is why I have it so high, but if the energy from the first 45 seconds lasted throughout the song this would have easily been in my top spot. I didn’t love it, but it is still miles ahead of some other submissions this round.

I had so much optimism for this one based on just the beginning but once we got into the electro type beats you lost me. It’s a very generic sound and not one that I can be easily sold on.

Okay I live for RAYE and basically all of her new album, but something about this feels overdone. In basically every music game I’ve seen on tengaged, RAYE is submitted, and most of the time it’s this song. Now that might be just FromAWindow, but I thought it was worth pointing out. As for the song itself, I lived, just like I did every other time I’ve listened to it. Her voice is fucking incredible, the tempo was fast paced and it fit perfectly. It had range, peaks and valleys, and, in a round that was largely forgettable, I think it stands out from the pack. Well done this week!
This feels a bit weird to me, because I just found this to be solid. Nothing mind blowing, but just a solid submission that I enjoyed listening to. This was the first song I listened to this round and I would have never guessed that it would be in my top spot this round. Everyone else did so poorly that being “solid” is good enough to win here. This song kind of feels like a remix, the vocals and the instrumentals sound like they are from two different songs and I just found it to be pretty interesting and engaging. I liked this.

I absolutely hated nearly everything about this round and its submissions but this one was the only tolerable one. The vocals are good and it’s a smooth listen, which honestly is all I can really ask for given your competition. Thank you.

I was pretty impressed with your submission this week! Her voice is exactly the kind I obsess over in pop music, and the production seemed quite strong, which I found myself loving. It does sound a little basic, but I didn’t mind so much this round. My critique for you is, in a round where you have to choose something, make sure it isn’t in a category that others will do. THREE of you decided to choose blue as a color, which is fine, but that puts yourself at a disadvantage in my opinion because not only do you have to fight against everyone already, you now have to make sure that you come out on top of the blue category too. Luckily, you came out on top of the blues, but it’s something to keep in mind. Best of luck!

So…Lana, huh. Not the most original artist to submit for this game. When I first listened to this I was expecting to absolutely slander it in my critiques but then it hit me on the second listen. I do actually decently enjoy this even though it’s a bit dreary. This reminded me why I can’t really get into Lana’s music, I just don’t love the whole sleepy voice kind of thing but as long as she’s backed up by some good instrumentals I can tolerate her. These instrumentals are pretty stellar. Maybe this could have been bumped up a slot if it wasn’t Lana or if you provided a description.

BORRRINGGG. I don’t listen to a ton of Lana but I’m convinced this has to be her worst track out there. She can sing, no question, but holy shit let’s just move into the next round. It’s like she’s singing me a lullaby trying to put me to sleep, and it’s working.

I always love Lana, and this was no exception! I’ll get the obvious out of the way first, submitting Lana in a game about discovering new music isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but that was basically my only critique for you this round. Her voice was stunning as always, and especially here it seemed very hypnotic, which I loved. I liked the fact that her voice can be softer but is still heard over the instrumentals, kind of like a quiet strength. Overall, not bad this week! I’d just say to find a more underground artist. Please leave my grandma alone. Anyways, this song was very interesting and made me feel confused. And that actually made me kinda happy because I was desperate to feel SOMETHING during this round. This just suffers from being a bit too repetitive. There’s just a lot going on here. I didn’t mind it though but I didn’t really like it either.

This started off decently but really fell off once I had to turn down the volume. I’m not sure what those digital cues were but I’m not a fan, otherwise it’s a fine enough song.

I’m extremely conflicted on where to place this because I absolutely hate the vocals but the production is amazing. There’s just something about her voice I find grating, but the production feels top tier. It feels disjointed, like all of the effort was focused in one place and the others were left lacking. I will say, thank you for finding a more underground artist! I’m curious to see where you place this round but sadly I will not be rating this high. I hope you can recover <33
