Elton John - Something About The Way You Look Tonight
Starting off with some Elton John tonight! I’m 99% sure this only got on the list in the first place being attached to his version of Candle In The Wind dedicated to Princess Diana but I’ve always thought the original was better, and this song is also better than that remake. I’ve always had so much respect for Sir Elton John, he’s an absolute legend of the music industry because he’s so damn talented. This song is a pretty good showcase of what he’s always brought to the table, he’s a god at playing piano and this song is a pretty raw performance of pure emotion. I’m into it!
LeAnn Rimes - How Do I Live?
Oh hell yeah, I love this song. I wouldn’t say this does anything to really change the game, it’s just a fairly standard country pop ballad about a deep love. But a song like this doesn’t really NEED to change the game, it just NEEDS to be really fuckin good, and backed up with the raw talent of LeAnn Rimes I would say it not just meets the mark but leaves the mark in the dust!

Gotye ft. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know
This is probably the best breakup song of all time, and the main reason for that is in how kinda meta this whole thing is. Like, this serves to call out how BS most other breakup songs are. It starts off pretty normal, with Gotye really pouring on the melodrama in his delivery, but then Kimbra comes in and just emasculates him for the entire rest of the song. There’s always 2 sides to any breakup but typically we only get the one perspective, so this song exists to show us that sometimes we’re not getting the full story and also that these 2 were very special artists who I wish we got more than just the 1 song from. Gotye should have been INFLUENTIAL with his music, we could use more of this.
Nickelback - How You Remind Me
Was this song before or after Nickelback stopped trying? I forget if that was this album or the next. Chad Kroeger has flat out admitted he just copies songs he hears on rock radio and tries to sound similar to them just to be popular and mainstream. I have very little respect for Nickelback as a band and their music has aged like milk in the sun but this is still the best hit they've had. Granted that's a VERY low bar, but it's a bar they cleared.

Adele - Rolling in the Deep
I mean, who doesn't love Adele. She truly is the artist for everyone, and this is her biggest and arguably best song. This album topped the charts for about 2 years straight off the power of this and a few others. This song set the standard of what to expect that year: the time to have fun was over, the time to party was over, it was ass kicking time and this was the anthem of that era.
Lorde - Royals
I was fully expecting someone to submit this, and that's not a bad thing. Royals may not have been the biggest song of it's day but this is easily one of the most influential and important songs of our generation. This song did to the pop music landscape what Thanos did in the MCU, one snap and the world changed. Club music pretty much died overnight and was replaced with everyone trying, and failing, to be this. This song has my undying respect for what it did to a genre of music I, quite frankly, couldn't fucking stand.

Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are
It's so easy to forget there was a time Bruno Mars made saccharine ballads and shit oversaturated with cheese instead of amazing retro throwback hits. This is a song and an era the man seems to have left in the past and I'd agree it was for the best. Yeah, this song is nice and sweet but it is nowhere NEAR his best work.
Alicia Keys - No One
I love Alicia Keys so much, but I've never been all that attached to this song if I'm being honest. Yes, she has an amazing voice. Yes, she's a fantastic pianist. We all know these. This song just kinda lacks any sort of flavor that the rest of her catalogue has in some degree. I do like this one a lot, but it doesn't hit as hard as most of her material. Sorry!

Now THIS is the kind of drama I live for! This is such a fun song. I love the passive-aggressive nature of the whole song, I feel like something like this would be very popular nowadays bc it's so shady yet so much fun.
Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
This is how we're ending the round? Really? Okay… If you look up "bland" or "generic" you will find this song, or just Bryan Adams in general. The only remotely interesting thing about this song is that it goes on for way too fuckin long. There's a point where it should end naturally but then the instrumentals roar back in with all the intensity of a gentle spring breeze and plod along for another 2 goddamn minutes.
