Why would Any one care if someone is anti semantics anyway lol
Half of the Israeli population are refugees from other middle eastern and north african countries. Are you gonna force Iran to take back the 100,000 jews that used to live there?
Not even that they're willfully ignorant. They're well aware Israel is an occupying force displacing millions of people from their own land. They just don't care or view it as wrong.
amixoxi I guess Iām a little confused then. What should I do? Iām a white āsettlerā in the US. Should I go back home to Russia? My family chose to leave when they were killing Jews indiscriminately there in the 1880s, as Jews arenāt native to Russia.
Should my family go further back? We donāt know where we were before Russia but most Jews from there went through Germany or Poland. But they werenāt even native from there, they came from Greece or Italy. But those Jews werenāt native from there, they fled from the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judea when the Romans were killing Jews indiscriminately.
Hm. I guess thereās really not a home for my family to return to ??
maxiphone27 doesn't sound like your family were active in the colonization of America and displacement and annihilation of Native Americans. That's kinda the thing. Israel is present day active.
chaachiing ok but a LOT of folks are criticizing all Israelis. If youāre talking about the actual settlers in the West Bank, or actual Israeli government officials, thatās one thing. But random Israeli citizens are also not actively annihilating anyone, yet they are also being told to leave and they are also getting caught in the crossfire. (Obviously it is worse for the Palestinians, I am not arguing that one).
maxiphone27 I never said the word settlers and were delving into anecdotes here. My view on this is very baseline; anyone born in the region or is residing there for refuge purposes should be allowed to stay. Then we can figure out a method of co-existence though world leaders will have us believe that isnāt possible. I draw the line at people (from any religion!) claiming their Gods promised them land and using that as justification to build an apartheid state. Until God can testify in court, international law should take precedence.
Iād say you moving from Russia to the US is a form of refuge (and you were born there) so I wouldnāt call you a settler, and as long as youāre respecting the natives, I donāt see an issue with it, but again I am neither Palestinian nor Native American so my opinions are purely from a human rights standpoint.
amixoxi This isnāt an anecdote. I described the history of the ethnic group Ashkenazi Jews. There are other groups of Jews who have different paths, though the vast majority are similarly fraught with persecution.
The entire reason Israel exists is for refuge purposes for Jews. It was created by Europe because they think theyāre the most important people of all time, then told all the Jews to go there. The US wasnāt letting Jews in, nor was almost anywhere else. The vast majority of the population either are refugees or descendants of refugees.
The Israeli government is not respecting the Palestinian natives there and absolutely deserves criticism. The US government ALSO does not respect Native Americans, not even in present day. I believe coexistence is possible (as do a LARGE number of Israeli citizens and Palestinians) but calling for folks to āgo homeā is not productive.
maxiphone27 100% agreed, and if you look at the history of the land youāll find that it was inhabited by 30+ ethnic groups, but neither group will concede that because it means conceding neither of them are truly native. I think the bigger issue is not who has the right to live there, but the apartheid laws and the war crimes of Hamas/IDF, as well as the growing occupation of the West Bank. Really shitty situation tbh.
