#HONEYMOON Sep 18, 2015
imageSo Lana's new album dropped today...and I have to say I think it's her best album yet tbh. I'll do a little review of each of the songs on it.

1. Honeymoon - this was released a few weeks ago, and I love it!! It's got a very romantic yet tragic sort of theme to it, I like especially the bit at the end where there's a little bit of a key and tempo change.

2. Music to Watch Boys To - dropped a few days ago, also a slower song, but with more depth to it than Honeymoon, it reminds me quite a lot of a couple of songs from Ultraviolence like Pretty When You Cry and Fucked My Way Up to the Top.

3. Terrence Loves You - probably my least favorite song on the album, its the slowest and most low key one. Its got quite a tragic feel to it, the lyrics are amazing of course but I feel like its not been written to appeal to mass market, its more of a personal song for Lana.

4. God Knows I Tried - this is my favorite song on the album by far! It's got Lana's typical sadness to it but something about it is also really seductive, and I love how the lyrics make reference to her trying to avoid the spotlight.

5. High By The Beach - the first single from the album, the video is amazing, and I love how its more of a throwback to the Born To Die era, with the beat etc.

6. Freak - this is (so far) one of the most popular ones that I've seen on twitter, and it's definitely one of my top three from the album, its got quite a similar sound to High By the Beach but its got more of a dark sound to it...its one of the more edgy songs on the album, some of the sounds remind me of lady gaga.

7. Art Deco - this one reminds me so much of American!! Its got a similar sort of key and tempo to it, it's a very elegant sort of song, if thats a word you could use to describe music?

8. Burnt Norton - this is a poem by TS Eliot, Lana sounds so good reading it out!!! Her voice is very dreamy and I listened to this lying in bed in the dark it felt very mystical.

9. Religion - this is to me one of the more sexy songs, and I feel like this song is quite a good one to represent the Honeymoon style of the album, its quite similar to some of the other tracks on the album with the vocal style and music.

10. Salvatore - I really love this song, I think it's the sexiest with a really sad undertone to it! It makes me think of a passionate yet tragic love affair abroad in Europe for some reason, I really enjoy the lazy sort of tone to her voice in this especially.

11. The Blackest Day - This is quite a sad song lyrically, but it's more up-tempo and it has more of a beat to it and a more edgy sound than some of the other tracks, its really quite an empowering song despite the title.

12. 24 - I could see this being in a sad film of some sort (although wouldn't all Lana's music?!), its a very cinematic song and I love the combinations of the instruments and vocals, although for me it isn't one of the standout songs on the album.

13. Swan Song - this is probably the song that is the most emotional, it deals with Lana's final song; "I will never sing again" which may be a hint that Honeymoon is her last album (I hope not!!)...however the fact that there's a song after it makes me think that she's being ironic?

14. Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - this is a cover of Nina Simone's classic song from the 60s, and I think Lana really does it justice, she gives the original a very 'Lana' twist, but makes it more edgy yet also classic, I really enjoy the cover.

There's my review of the album!! Does anyone have any other thoughts they would care to share?
