I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and even though I am an unmarried, childless member of the church, I try to be a good saint and have worked to uphold as many religious traditions as I can over the years. One of those traditions is having home evenings once a week and my family did try to hold it often, but doing so with a part-member family was difficult and so we did the best we could with it and other traditions. I also went to home evenings in Young Single Adult wards, but that faded with time and I eventually stopped going to those events around 2014.
When I moved out on my own, I decided to take the tradition of home evenings up again. Unfortunately, my roommates weren't overly interested in participating in one held by me, so I was on my own quite often. I pray, listen to a hymn on LDS.org or play one on my clarinet, and I would read a talk, scriptures, a church magazine, or something teaching the Mormon gospel.
My home evening lessons evolved in 2018 when I decided to do two or three hours of genealogy each Monday while watching episodes of 'Who Do You Think You Are' on YouTube. I watched YouTube for the first few months and then switched to adding movies for a post-lesson activity in Spring 2018. I don't remember all of the movies I picked, but they were good movies. This format of home evenings lasted the year and it was very spiritually edifying.
With the release of the new 'Come, Follow Me' manual in 2019, my home evenings now consist of me reading the week's lesson and then selecting a movie from my vast collection of movies or getting a movie from the library to watch as an activity. I sometimes do go out and do things, but going out depends on health, money, and whatever's going on. Mostly, I will watch movies for the activity because they are free and I have access to plenty of them.
I have been recovering from surgery, which I had on January 29, and spent time at my parents for a bit doing that and I haven't had much energy to do activities until recently, but I plan to go back to the home evening schedule as I can. Here are the movies I've used for activities so far this year;
January 14, 2019: Forrest Gump.
February 4, 2019: For the Love of Spock.
March 4, 2019: CSI: Immortality.
