The Playstation was a project commissioned by Nintendo to be an expansion to the SNES. Nintendo cancelled on them when they decided a new console (n64) was a better idea leaving sony with an unfinished Playstation they eventually decided to finish on their own. Sony wouldn't be in the gaming market had it not been for Nintendo.
