This Head of Household competition is called “Gyul! Hap!”, and here’s how it works.

Today you will play a mental competition based around identifying patterns in colors and symbols, with the aim of scoring as many points as possible.

Each round you’ll receive a board containing 9 symbols. Each symbol shows a shape on a background. There are:
-        3 possible shapes.
-        3 possible shape colors.
-        3 possible background colors.

Your will be required to find all of the “matches” on the board before your opponent.

A match (called a HAP) is defined as follows: Each of the three characteristics is either the SAME ON ALL SYMBOLS, or is DIFFERENT ON ALL 3 SYMBOLS.

For example:

This is a match, because the shapes are all identical, the background colors are all identical, and the shape colors are all different. Because all 3 of the properties are either identical or all distinct, they form a match.

These pictures do NOT form a match. They have identical backgrounds and have all different shape colors, but do not have all identical or distinct shapes, because there are 2 stars and 1 moon. It would have to either be just all 3 moons OR 1 moon, 1 star and 1 sun for it to be a match.

When the board is revealed, houseguests have 5 minutes to name as many Haps (matches) as possible via TENGAGED MAIL. You will still score points for finding a Hap if you are slower than other players, just assure a correct Haps arrives in my inbox within 5 minutes to score.

Each symbols on the grid will follow a number system from 1-9 that I will post in a second. All you have to do is send me the numbers of the 3 symbols that form a Hap (aka, 3 5 2).

If the combination is indeed a Hap, you EARN 1 point. If the combination is NOT a Hap, then you LOSE 1 point, so make sure you get it right!

Now, if you think that you yourself have identified all possible Haps on the board, then you may send the phrase GYUL. Gyul means that you think are no more Haps remaining. If you are correct and there is indeed no more Haps, then you will gain 3 POINTS. However, if you are incorrect and there are more Haps remaining on the board that you have not identified, you will lose 2 points.

The final chance for points comes with your speed. The first person to send all Haps and correctly send Gyul will win 1 bonus point.

The game consists of only THREE 5 minute rounds. The player with most points at the end will win become the HEAD of HOUSEHOLD.

There will be a tiebreaker round if required, and we shall do a TEST RUN round with no score before we begin.
