Ladies welcome to the first runway of Tengaged Drag Race Season Nine! Let me start by congratulating all of you for a really strong first week. I don’t think there were a lot of major misses here, and you’ve all set the bar really high! With that being said….
Talk about a strong start! This look is really a home run for me. It’s clever, it’s fashionable, it’s sexy, it’s everything I wanted to see from you and more. With all due respect to the other girls in this challenge, we all know you’re in a league of your own when it comes to sewing but I think beyond the technical polish of this look there are a lot of smart details that really make this look special – the orientation, the dangling jewelry, the brow. There’s also something refreshing about how restrained this look is in comparison to a lot of the other looks on the runway today, it makes your look all the more memorable. While I agree with the other judges that the version with the lighting effects is perhaps over stylized and a little illegible, I think this is a really great opening number for this season. Well done!
Thank God you decided to post the version of this look without the lighting effects because I wasn't originally a fan of this look – I felt there wasn't enough of an outfit and, and while I understand the concept, I didn't think obscuring half of your look was a good idea. However, that was not your final product! Your bat idea was fresh and original, and of course you executed the concept impeccably. While I don't find this necessarily exciting or jaw dropping, I can imagine this walking down the runway at a fashion show and it really being a show-stopping moment. My advice for you would be to continue pushing yourself into unfamiliar territory. You took an edgy risk this week and it paid off, and I don't want you to lose that momentum.
I’ve told you before that I think you’re among the most polished queens in the community, and you backed it up this week! It’s conceptual, it’s nothing I’d have expected from you (or anyone else) and I really enjoyed the flipped presentation with and without lighting effects. I’m a sucker for attention to detail and production value so this really just checks all the boxes for me. I love the monochromatic ashy beige theme, I like the jewelry and how it sits on you, and the garment/fx are simple but really very stunning. Thank you for catering to my taste and please continue to do so :)
