(Gonna break character cause I feel like this is worth posting about)
Why do people think saying "the F word" or "the N word" should be bannable? I think it's a matter of oversensitivity. Enforcing rules like this is, in my opinion, too militant.
There's no reason to get offended by people who don't actually know you saying mean words to you. Individual words have the weight you give them.
If someone does know you and wanted to hurt you through text, I'm sure they could do better than just using a slur. They could say something pointed and personal without using those words and it would sting a million times worse than anything some rando could put together. And they would get punished for harassment, which is already something grounded in much more sense than just banning for use of a word.
Suppose I'm mislead with these beliefs. Even then, banning people for two weeks for using a no-no word isn't gonna make them change. They won't come to some sudden enlightenment that, "oh maybe I shouldn't call people dumbass n***** f******s." They'll realize "oh maybe I shouldn't call people dumbass n***** f*****s *on tengaged.*" They'll just tiptoe around using the word instead. If your goal is to combat homophobia/racism with this rule, I'll just tell you straight up that I don't see it working anytime soon. The only function I see for the rule is for people with vendettas to keep tabs on someone until they use a banned word so that they can whistleblow and get them off the site.
But that's just how I see the situation. What do you think?
