Big Brother and online Hunger games.

today in my community and contentedness class we discussed whether or not online communities were "real". Most agreed that they are, indeed, real. I definitely supported this stance. We had to basically say what our definition of real was. But this community affects individuals. I know that I have definitely gotten emotional over games, i mean I have never cried or anything but sure I have felt hurt or angry. I also genuinely care about people, which is kind of weird because i havent meet 99 percent of them, but you really can get attached to people online in my opinion. In addition, I have made like friendships that I maintain off of this site/skype. I text/snapchat/etc. a select few people. What are your thoughts?

Agreed. I talk to people from this site every day. They can affect my mood for the day, so that's pretty real :P

Yes because in every community there is gonna be some bad times but the good times are so much greater and most users whether it seems like it or not do care about eachother

I mean I'm sure people in real life communities get angry or get mad at each other too, but no one would discredit them as not being a community still because a couple people in the community had differences.

Agreed with BengalBoy

We're all just brains in vats in a warehouse in the real Arkansas.

Also yeah Tengaged is a real community. While trying to avoid being a "old tengager" reminiscing about how "good" this site "used" to be... When the website was first created in 2008 everyone basically knew of everyone. We might not have talked to each and every other person but we basically knew of each other's existence. That sense of belonging allowed for great moments such as allowing certain stars enrollments to go all the way down to Orange and Lite Green.

I mean now it's a little less "personal" because there's so many of us and the focus has shifted from the interpersonal communication to the "omg pliz gift Gemma weaves" and chants of "YASSS queen YASSSS" for no apparent reason, but there is still a very strong sense of community.

Definitely. I used to tell one of my best friends that no one on here is ever real and nothing on here ever matters. Because what happens on here would never impact the life I live outside tengy. But I'm glad to say I was wrong when I told him that, because the friendships and bonds I've built on here are actually genuine and I've grown to care about people hat are half way around the world :)
