If the Oscars didn't have separate male and female acting categories, do you think female actresses would get as many nominations as men?
If foreign language films didn't have a separate category, do you think the shortlist would get nominated for Best Picture?
If animated films didn't have a separate category, do you think the shortlist would get nominated for Best Picture?
There's always a bias whether it's race, sex, genre, personal history or language. But a movie is a movie. Considering how many movies are released each year, it just sucks that some great ones don't get recognised and some that do you think, "Really?" And this is in regards to all categories.
With all that said...Birdman was a great movie and I was so happy when it won Best Picture last year. Although Straight Outta Compton should be nominated, I'm hoping for Room to win best picture.
But I'm not staying up so...yeah...have fun, whoever is planning to watch it. XD #Oscars
probably only one woman would get nommed, 2 on very rare occasions, higher chance of no women noms
and foreign films probably wouldnt get nominated unless they somehow get worldwide attention
straight outa compton wasnt that good tbh. oscars so white is kind of pointless when you think about it, the movies the movement are arguing werent good enough and neither were the actors. just my two cents
Bowling4fun But let's say the awards were:
- Best Performance in a Lead Role
- Best Performance in a Supporting Role
And there were 10 nominees in each, do you think it would still be a 4:1 ratio of male:female nominees?
Yoshitomi for lead role i think there would be tbh, probably more so 2-3 female noms with the occasional 4
i think in supporting role category it could potentially get 4-5 female noms
Dudetb3 My opinion is I enjoyed it and I honestly think it deserved to at least be nominated. Yours is you didn't.
I have a question for you though. There can be 10 nominees for Best Picture, but this year they picked 8. If 2 more films were added to the shortlist, don't you think Straight Outta Compton would deserve to be there?
Yoshitomi no to be honest. creed would be #9 and 45 years would be #10. if i had to choose #11, it would be the danish girl.
straight outa compton wasn't that great. the acting was to many extents, par. and one can argue that the best actor in the film was paul g. the plot had some strong points but several parts of the film came off as filler and formlimatic. idk as a creative writing major, i wasn't blown away. i know people are pissed that african americans are underrepresented in the oscars, but there weren't many impressive movies staring them this year
