How did Ghost Island flop so badly?

It was my favourite pre-season cast, I was really excited for the twist and then..   this.

Honestly, they really killed the momentum by having like all the first few weeks get "Sorry! No game Today"
On top of that, most of the "curses" were from the last few seasons.
That's just how the FORMAT flopped tho. The gameplay would be a whole other post
