The ones who yearn to be the best they can in their job & be as prepared as possible for their students easily work 60 hours a week, eventually making up for all the off-time received in the summer and for holidays. 52 weeks at 40 hours is 2080 work hours. 55 hours at 36 school weeks is 1980, not including teacher workdays. Our true salary is so piss poor.
I could work 24 hours a day and still not get everything I need to do done. The work is never-ending and comes in so many domains. During the first semester, my whole life is the school.
We’re paid for 8 hours a day and I’m there at least 10 hours 5 days a week and at least 5 hours on the weekend.
If I didn’t get a bilingual stipend that has me paid as much as a teacher with 7 years of experience, I wouldn’t do this job. It just isn’t worth it. The day weighs on me so much if I don’t get through my lesson plan or it isn’t a good day with my kids. I can’t help but have my mental well-being revolve around their success and my success providing a good day with engaging lessons.

also hugs, i'm entering the education/child-care field too & have been nearly deterred a million times because of the pay, it's virtually all non-administrative school personnel, too, it's sad.
