I love Survivor, and I love Jeff Probst, but over the years it's become pretty apparent he has some misogynistic tendencies, if not being one fully. If a guy is doing poorly in a challenge, he'll mention it once and drop it or let it slide, but if a girl is doing poorly, he will rip on her the entire challenge, and bring it back up at tribal. Sort of like
*Guy is running slowly*
[Male Castaway] is taking his time. Making sure he can complete the challenge strong.
*Girl is running slowly*
[Female Castaway] is tanking at this challenge. Is she even trying? MOVE IT! I'd vote you out if I were your tribemantes! YOU SUCK! DIE!
Also, Jeff always has guy crushes and will make sure they're brought back as many times as possible(Some deserve to, but like James in Heroes vs. Villains, why the eff made James a hero?) I mean, for the past 3 seasons that featured returning castaways for "redemption", none were girls. I know Jeff isn't casting, but he does play a part in deciding what castaways return. Guys barely have to do anything to get in Jeff's good graces, but girls have to basically win in order to earn any of Jeff's respect.
Like I said, I love Survivor and Probst, but you have to admit he can be somewhat of a misogynist.
Jeff likes people that go out there and make the game entertaining for him and the viewers. The fact is, females are genetically less likely to be alpha then males, so men are more likely to make the game entertaining, which is why women are called "floaters" more often then men are.
How many mixed-gender alliance leaders where there that were women? Only Brenda, Cirie, and arguably Taj, for a period. You'll notice Brenda and Cirie are both returnees. The "redemption" characters were all physically strong alliance leaders. they are expected to be the leaders of the tribe, and the fact is, there has never been a woman who led a tribe comprised of mixed gender.
karolusmagnus I just threw the returning people in there, but my main point is about challenges. He constantly picks on them, but hardly ever rips on guys if they do badly.
joey123 women are more likely to have trouble in strength related challenges. I haven't noticed but I have heard people point this out. I can't really say anything about this challenges stuff unless I have real numbers on it.
