We are ignorant. Not everyone in particular, but as a whole society is ignorant. We have said this country is no longer racist, but we are. Think of all those groups out there that hate others. Think of all those people who have been discriminated against because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, what kind of music they listen to, or how they act. What have those people ever done to be discriminated against like that? Nothing. All they did was not fit into everyone else's norm.
What is normal? Does anyone even know anymore? No, everyone has a different definition of what normal is. In school, everyone learns about the Civil Rights Movement and how slavery was abolished, and how segregation was proven to be neither morally right nor constitutionally right. However, is there still the racism? Is there still discrimination against others because of their sexual preference, religion, etc? Yes, there is.
How about the soldiers that fought for our freedom? Have we forgotten about them too? I hope not because they are the only reason I can write this article. I took a trip to Washington, D.C. in May. One of the places we visited was Arlington National Cemetery. Never in my life have I seen so many gravestones. They have 340,000 bodies buried there. Yet we still have people who bash the war, who ask why are we still over there? The reason we are still over there is because we are trying to get them on their feet to prevent us from having to go back over there. Yes, maybe we shouldn't have gone over there in the first place, but we are over there now and nothing is going to change that now.
Do you think America has become too ignorant? Do you think they have forgotten those who have done the most for them? I do. We do not thank the everyday people who keep us safe. We do not thank the police officers, the firemen, the crossing guards, the EMT's, the school nurses, the doctors, etc. All those people who you just blow off and complain about. Did you ever stop to think what they do for you? Probably not, yet you complain about how they do not do their job. But could you do their job? Most likely, you could not. I know that this article is very opinionated, but I am a very opinionated person. I do not mind criticism. Feel free to say what you please. However, I leave you with these questions:
Do you think America has become ignorant?
Do you think we have forgotten those who fight for our freedom?
Have we forgotten what our country fought for to give everyone rights?
Do you still believe this country is racist?
