By evicting Shelli, JJM place themselves in the middle of the house with Van/Austwins on one side and Jmack and Steve on the other. No one would come after them.

By evicting Vanessa, Shelli/Jmack/Steve become the middle players, with JJM making up one side of the house, and Austwins making up the other.
