In this Garnet Match, we will be playing the season’s third and final version of poker using the Hold’em format. However, this time, you will know the identity of your OWN card.

NOTE: For the duration of this match, you may not trade Garnets with one another.

As this is a Garnet Match, you will not be bidding with chips. Instead, your GARNETS are your currency in this game. The match will end when someone loses all their Garnets.

I will deal a card to each of the 4 players out of a 20-card deck. Each card has a value from 1-10, and each value is in the deck twice. Before each hand is dealt, each player must bet 1 Garnet for the hand as an “ante”. A card will then be dealt to each player. Unlike the Death Match versions, this deck is reset at the start of EVERY round.

The first “community card” will then be revealed, and a first round of betting will begin. When it is your turn, you have three options on betting, which are as follows:
-        Raise: Add more Garnets than what your opponent has bet.
-        Call: Add the same amount of Garnets that your opponent has bet, or all the Garnets you have (called an “All In”).
-        Fold: Add no Garnets but lose the hand.

Players will continue raising the pot until either one player folds or calls. If a player folds, they will have no chance to receive all the Garnets in the pot. A betting round ends when all remaining players call each other.

After the betting is over, the second community card is revealed, and a second round of betting commences. Players who folded in the first round of betting cannot bet in the second round. When the second round of betting is over, the remaining player cards are revealed.

The players want to get the best hand using the two community cards. They can win in one of the following four ways:

1.        Three of a Kind: Your card and BOTH community cards on the card are all the same number. This is the best hand.

2.        Straight: Your card and BOTH community cards create a set of the adjacent numbers (i.e., 5, 6 and 7). Loses to a Three of a Kind. 10 and 1 are considered adjacent numbers (so you can have 9, 10, 1), but hands with the highest sum still have more favour.

3.        Pair: Your card and ONE of the community cards are the same number. Loses to a Straight or a Three of a Kind.

4.        Highest number: There are no sets with the community cards, but yours is higher than your opponents.

If players manage to get the same level of hand, then the win goes to the hand with the highest set or straight.

If the showdown results in a tie, then the pot is set aside and we continue with the next hand, except with no ante. The player who wins that hand will take all of the Garnets bet in that hand AND the previous hand.

We will continue until one player runs out of Garnets and is declared the loser - or after we have played the 15th round (whichever comes first). The loser automatically becomes a Death Match candidate.

Remaining players continue if necessary, until the 15th round is played, at which point the player with the most Garnets will receive the penultimate Token of Life of the season. They will not have another one to give away. If there are multiple players with the most Garnets, the winner is the player who STARTED with the LEAST Garnets. The winner of the match also receives 5 Garnets.

The Death Match candidate then picks one of the remaining two players to play against.
