Best (And Worst) Of 2023 Films Rankdown | #10

Hiiii let’s pretend like it hasn’t been a week or so since the last blog!! Anyways we’re starting with the #best then the #worst!

Best Of 2023: #10

✰ Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse | Dir. Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson, Kemp Powers.

Plot Synopsis: After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most. (I copied from Letterboxd idc)

Review: I don’t really have anything to say about this? I liked it a lot! Maybe my favorite animated film (that I saw) of 2023! The ending pissed me off though it felt too CW next Tuesday at 8pm for part 2 of the 3 part finale !!! woah!! You know? I don’t have much else to say… yeah!

Worst Of 2023: #10

✰ Scream 6 | Dir. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett

Plot Synopsis: The most recent survivors of the Ghostface killings decide to start fresh in New York City! However, they find themselves being the target of a new Ghostface again….

Review: Yeah I’m a Scream hater idc (I actually like the franchise, I just think it’s overpraised and I also think it killed the slasher genre/left a permanent stink on the genre) Now this isn’t that bad…. It’s basically just the same thing we saw like 5 times already, just with a fun new setting!!! They do use New York pretty well as a setting and I think they do a good job on creating tension at times…. However, they failed to take any sort of risks. They advertised this “new ghostface” who is “darker and nothing like we’ve seen before” and then ghostface does literally nothing except kill off new characters and random strangers… There’s 6 characters who have all previously faced Ghostface at some point and not a single one of them dies… I wasn’t a big fan of Scream 5 but at least they took the risk to kill off Dewey !!! And I’ve said before but I’ll say it again, if Mindy died in the ladder scene, I would’ve appreciated the movie a lot more because it would’ve raised the stakes and showed that nobody is safe!! But alas…. Also, I hate hate hate fake out deaths for the killer ! It’s lazy, boring, and when you’re doing it for the 3rd time out of 6 movies, it loses its unpredictability really quick…And 3 killers really could’ve been a gag if they were actually good characters?? Quinn was cool I guess, the one guy was there and Ethan was boring! And then they all become too over top after their reveals. Especially Ethan!  Anyways, I’m glad Scream 7 is basically done for because I’m sure it would’ve been another underwhelming cash grab sequel no one really asked for!
