April Turner came into WWE as 23 year old from Oregon. She was assigned to OVW, the companies developmental brand, where she debuted on the November 24th show in a loss to then #1 contender for the OVW Women's Championship, Aria.
April would adopt a queen of Egypt kind of gimmick, using very flowy entrance clothes with golden ring gear.
Impressing in her debut, she was again booked two weeks later in a match against Christy Hemme, which April won. Later in December, she faced Chelsea Green in a winning effort. The following week, she was booked in another match against Green, which she also won. After the match, April would extend her hand to Chelsea, helping her up, before brutally attacking sidelining her.
With Chelsea out of the picture, April and Zack Ryder started a storyline together, with April attempting to get Zack on her side despite sidelining his girlfriend. April would get Zack Ryder into matches he otherwise wouldn't have had. The same night she first prepositioned this to Zack, she took a rollup loss to OVW rookie Aurelia, bringing some frustration to her. Still as Zack Ryder's manager, April took part in a #1 Contender's match against Christy Hemme, which she again won, becoming the #1 Contender for the OVW Women's Championship, now held by Aria, the person she debuted against.
April and Aria would enter a heated rivalry, exchanging harsh words and adding a stipulation to the title match: if Aria won, April wouldn't be able to challenge for the title again while she was champion. If April won, not only did she win the belt, but Aria would also have to become the Queens servant for a month. At the Conquest PPV, Aria and April faced in a Steel Cage match. As Aria was about to escape the cage, Ryder would hit Aria's head with the cage door giving April an opening to hit the Queen's Conquest and pin Aria to win the OVW Women's Championship.
With this, Aria joined April and Zack Ryder being their servant and being berated by April specially. She also participated in inter brand battle royal, where the winner would get a SmackDown Women's Championship shot at Fastlane, which she loss, being accidentally eliminated by Aria, to her rage. Their storyline was the hottest storyline in WWE at that point, which led them to answer a WWE Women's Tag Team Championship open challenge from Tamina and Nia Jax, where April and Aria captured the belts. With this, April became a double champion. With OVW going trough some issues in their women's division, April would focus majorly on her tag team title reign, defending the belts against the Sky Pirates at WrestleMania and the SmackGirls in a weekly Smackdown. They would then start feuding with The Bella Twins, successfully defending the belts against them on Raw. However, as The Bella Twins were granted a rematch at No Way Out, Aria was pinned and they lost the Tag Team titles. Furthermore, April would start a rivalry with Morrigan in OVW, successfully defending her title against her. At some point, April and Aria even started geting along.
April would also start participating in a Invasion Angle, being put in a champion vs champion match against Kagetsu, which she lost.
April would return to OVW, seeking new challengers for her OVW Women's Championship and berating Aria still until Aria was sick of it and attacked April, ending their partnership. April and Aria were to rekindle their big rivalry, but as Aria was going trough some personal issues, it was scrapped. April would defend her title against Akaeli Price in OVWs Supershow, defeating her.
April would also defend the belt against the winner of a #1 contenders match between Lita and Cameron. As Lita was about to win, April distracted her to allow Cameron to win. Later that night, April easily beat Cameron to retain the OVW Women's Championship, although this was only the start of something bigger. The following weeks, Lita and April would start a rivalry as Lita demanded another shot at #1 contendership, which she won by defeating Carmella and Kris Statlander. The rivalry would see Lita stealing the title from April and bringing out a psychologically broken, crazy personality out of April, who was desperate to have things go her way and was slowly seeing Lita get the best of her. At Conquest, April and Lita main evented in a phenomenal tables match, which saw Lita perform the moonsault from the turnbuckle over April on the commentators table to win the belt, ending April's longest reigning OVW Women's Champion run.
April would take some time off television. She would return at next years Royal Rumble, entering #2 and being the ironwoman of the match, reaching the final 4 before being eliminated. She was then supposed to head to Raw and even appeared in a segment joining forces with Aria and Bailey Chrono to fend off the Kabuki Warriors, however, after internal struggles and some backstage heat with some officials, April would leave the WWE in early June.
Two months later, in early August, April would return to participate in WWE Networks first tournament: the Mae Young Classic.
