keys are overrated

Jul 21, 2010 by parvalone
Everyone is always fighting for and bitching about keys in the Castings game but in all honesty, keys are not THAT important. YES -- you need keys if you want to WIN the game. But people who just don't want to be voted out before final day really need to take a chill pill.

Example - in two of my games I made it to the END of the game (final 3) UNNOMMED the entire game with ZERO keys. WHY? I was active, friendly, and did extremely well in the challenges. In both these games, people with anywhere from 1-5 keys were sent home, but I managed to make it far (and stay off the block entirely) without the aid of keys. I got 2nd and 3rd in these games. Yes, I know if I had 3-5 keys I probably could have WON the game, but a 2nd after being unnommed with 0 keys is pretty cool stuff.

Another example - I made it to the end of another game (unnommed as well) with 4 keys, yet STILL got 2nd...not much of a difference.

Everyone calm down and stop attacking people with WHO GOT THE KEY? It's not the end of the world if you miss one. :) <3.

Keys are actually very important.

You can have 0 on challenges and completely inactive, but if you have 2 or 3 keys, you're gonna go unommed until the final day regardless.

Seal, I see what you mean and you're right, but you also can get good scores on the challenges and be really active and have 0 keys and go unnommed. Which is what I am saying. People with 2-5 keys were nommed in my games where I wasnt with 0 keys.

i understand what you mean by "who got the key" does it matter if you didnt who got it. but there not really overrated cause it depends if the game you got 4 keys and still got 2nd the person who got 1st might have been better than you with more keys/comp/checks

She's 100% correct here.

She acknowledges that they do have SOME importance, but it is VERY possible to make it to the end without them, too.  To be fair, I don't think you can go un-nommed if you are the only person without keys.  It always seems that people without keys all have to be nommed before people with keys get nommed - but I have seen rare situations where someone was totally inactive and sucked REALLY bad at challenges (or did not do them) and got nommed earlier than the keyless.  Here are some other concepts.

1.  "Who got the key?" can be important for another reason - but also a hazardous game.  It's great to know your competition if you stay un-nommed, and it helps you know where you sit in relation to others.  HOWEVER - if someone "wins" a game of 'who has the key' - meaning, they got it - and they get nominated... well, there's a better chance I am going to push to vote them out.  So - play "who got the key" all you want - it may bite you in the butt later on.

2.  Activity and games are VERY important.  I played a game once for example where a player had 9 keys.  Then he got nominated for 6th place because his scores were rather low.  You can probably guess who got 6th here.  Likewise - I have baffled people who had more than triple my key count by staying safe the same day they got nominated, and won games where people had 3-5 keys more than I.

So yeah - don't dismiss her so easily.  Keys are important - but not nearly as important as a balanced game is.
