There have been over 20 seasons of The Bachelor/Bachelorette and not one person of color (Black, Asian, Latino, etc.) has been a featured contestant. Two Black men from Tennessee decided to file class action lawsuits against the producers of the show on the basis that they were discriminated during the contestant interview process on account of their skin color. The two men auditioned to be bachelors in 2011 and claim that the producers denied them because they are Black. The two men are claiming that the producers were afraid that they would lose their “majority-White viewership” if they cast a person of color, and that their viewers wouldn’t be as inclined to watch a show about a relationship involving an individual of color.
