It seemed like the general consensus of all us youngsters back in the early 2010s was that we'd have our fun here for a little while and then go "live our adult lives" afterwards.
None of us could really foresee keeping in such close contact with friends for literally 10+ years after stumbling upon this community, and I think that's because we're really the first generation to grow up with such a primary social circle being online...
The people who raised us were sure that any personal relationships created online were entirely insignificant/meaningless compared to "real life" relationships, and I personally was convinced of this in my teens. Seeing how well a lot of these relationships have held over time feels kind of validating, looking back on what I used to think was a rather pathetic and wasted teenage social life.
