Is it never okay to overcharge/overuse your laptop?

Apr 26, 2020 by Yeonjun
Will my laptop be broken if I overcharge or overuse it?

I overcharge my laptop because it just turns off automatically at 40% or 50% without reminding.

This is the only laptop I have and I keep on using it, and suddenly, this came to mind. I'm broke, so I can't buy a new one if it's going to be broken.

Do I need to take care of it by not using it too much? I need this laptop too for college purposes. UGH HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

The short answer is, "no." Laptop batteries — and smartphone and tablet batteries — stop drawing electricity when full. So you can't damage a battery by leaving it plugged in. However, Lithium-ion batteries — which most gadgets use — last longest if they stay between 20 and 80 percent full.
