I just started watching it for the first time, I'm like midway through the second season and I love it!
Given, so far I see a decent amount of homophobia and gender stereotypes but this was nearly 20 years ago so times were different and it's hilarious.
JayElVeeIsBack I know but im excited cuz i have a lot more to watch!!
Meowfie I know but i wouldnt say it's not gender accepting, there's just gender role stereotypes but i dunno it's not that bad and actually models society pretty well. the passive-homophobia is worse
flamingjoe maybe it lessons later in the season (although i heard ross felt uncomfortable with a male nanny, which is stereotyping), maybe i'm nitpicking but like the shit with ross's ex-wife, whenever he brings her up it's like with her "lesbian-lover" and the laugh tracks go off, they say they're getting married, ross is like "so you'll be wife and wife?" and the laugh tracks go off, maybe it was different in that time since gay marriage wasn't legal in as many places but it's just using carol being with a woman rather than a man as a source of humor that can get problematic.
Teddybear Oh, I totally get what you're saying now. Yeah, I do think it isn't *as* bad later on, but stuff like the male nanny thing was kind of late on in the series. I think I even remember Ross saying "You gotta be at least bi." to him after he cried or something :/
