When dealing with old(er) clients

imageThey will either be the nicest person you've ever met or the nastiest and most entitled person you've ever met, no in between.

I've lost the track of the number of old clients I have talked to, either on the phone or via email, that were wildly belligerent and aggressive over relatively minor issues they had barely a child's understanding of. A good example is when we have to do periodic administrative changes to the "legalese" of some client documents to stay compliant with legislation/regulations and stuff. Doesn't actually affect anything, but we need the client to sign off on it anyway. The number of old people that will get absolutely furious at this and scream "WHY SHOULD I SIGN THIS? ARE YOU TRYING TO STEAL FROM ME?!" is just completely insane.

On the other hand, I've also had old people that are absolute saints. Had one lady I needed a document from not reply to my email and so I sent a follow up. She gets back to me immediately goes "Oh gosh! So sorry, I'm still waiting on them to send this. I guess I need a book called 'HR for Dummies' because I'm terrible at replying sometimes! LOL!"

Wild how an interaction with any boomer in a customer service setting is going to be either the absolute best or worst part of your work day every single time.
