Oh God, where I live there's a school board/school ministry decision or whatever fuck lol that passed a policy where Parental Consent of those under 16 is required to follow students preferred name, pronouns and what gender/bathroom they use.
Like, if your parents aren't accepting or schools the one safe space you are free to be yourself, before you choose to come out to them.... as LGBT+ or even just transgender... and it's not safe, that is dangerous. Or if you're out already basically have to come out again with your parents present, it's really fucked up.
Also, getting your drivers license. What the fuck will happen there?! Driver training what do they put down...? Then what will your license say? I've been misgendered before by police where I ive (loooong time ago) and basically it's being written into law.
My heart was/is with the USA and unfair, unjust laws being passed, now it's happening where I live and people are upset, alll I can think of is the youth and cultivating safe spaces, because this can put youth in harms way which is a bad reality but it could happen.
I feel so conflicted about this, because on one hand, parents do deserve to know what is happening in their kids lives. However, this could be dangerous, and the school could directly be putting kids in harms way with these policies. It definitely takes away a persons right to agency with their own identity.
