#20- Xenu's Top 20 Favorite Albums of All Time Feb 1, 2013
imageOkay, let me preface this by saying that as a fun writing project I've decided to rank my favorite 20 musical albums of all time and then write a little paragraph or so about them. I don't really care if anybody reads these because they are mainly to enhance my writing skills, but I would love it if we could get some discussion going as well!

Artist: WEEZER
Album: PINKERTON
Year: 1996

Few albums of the 1990s match the raw power and abrasiveness of Weezer's sophmore album. Initially written off by critics as one of the worst albums of the year--and by some of all time--Pinkerton eventually gained a cult following and slowly rose to post-punk royalty. However, this is not before lead singer/songwriter Rivers Cuomo suffered a mental breakdown over the critical lambasting of the album, causing him to isolate himself from the music industry and to later call the album the worst mistake of his musical carreer. And, while one of my favorite albums, it's easy to see why it was once so hated. The first four tracks "Tired of Sex," "Getchoo," "No Other One," and "Why Bother?" I considered unlistenable upon first review of the album. These tracks include so much feedback, abrasion, and general lo-fi attributes that it's really hard to actually listen to the tracks at first. However, upon repeated listens each track slowly becomes more and more enjoyable until they soon become the highlights of the album due to their unconventional sound. "Across the Sea"--possibly Weezer's greatest song ever produced--is an instant favorite, a heartfelt response to a fan letter from a girl in Japan who Cuomo claims that he had fallen in love with. The middle stretch, "The Good Life," "El Scorcho," and "Pink Triangle" are quirky pop masterpieces that, once again, get better with every repeated listen. The album hits a speedbumb with the definitive weak track "Falling for You," but finishes strong with an acoustic performane, "Butterfly" which is based the opera "Madame Butterfly." Pinkerton is a truly unique Weezer album that will probably never be topped by the likes of Rivers and the gang, which is why it's one of my favorites of all time.

A quick question about college apps Jan 31, 2013
Okay, so I am planning on transferring to a private Christian college next semester because they are the top university in my state on the degree that I want. However, I'm an atheist. Since this is a private college can they decide to reject my application because of my personal beliefs--or lack thereof? I understand that they probably won't flat out reject anybody that's not based in Christian principle, but can this be a deciding factor in whether or not I get accepted?
